*I nod. The answer is satisfactory, if a little formulaic. I'm actually distracted a bit by how handsome Vico looks in the evening light and have to get up to pour myself a cup of coffee to clear my head*
Uh, yes, well you should know that Battery City BLI is very hierarchical. Anyone above you must be treated as you would a military commander to a certain extent, unless you are given permission otherwise. You must also take orders from anyone above you, but if you feel that an order directly contradicts BLI policy *I recite* you can report it to the internal security force or, of course, Orwell or me.
You will be given the standard BLI gear, but as a consultant you are not obligated to wear it. You must, however, wear mostly white or black at all times. You can also be issued a weapon if you wish. You'll receive a level B paycheck and assigned an office and apartment. You may also file a request for one of these *I gesture at my apartment in general* which serves as both.

*I cross my legs, leaning on one elbow, and nod to his comments. None of it is new, but as my file went, ah, /missing/ some time ago, I can't blame him for not knowing. I wait until he's finished before I speak.* This isn't my first rodeo, love. I've been in business of one kind or another for years, including with Better Living. I already have a gun, though I prefer not to use it. I have an apartment, as well - it's a few blocks away, and more cozy than this one, if you don't mind my saying so. *I'm more than a bit tempted to add something about how he's welcome to stop by sometime, but decide not to push my luck.*

*I shake my head* Any apartment is cozier than mine. I understand that. Oh, there is one more thing. You're file... it seems to be missing...

*Ah, so he /did/ try to find it... I think I'm flattered. I know he'd have been given my standard paperwork and recommendation upon my signing up for the unit, so he must have looked for the file personally at some point. I try to look surprised.* Is it really? I don't make a habit of researching myself, so I haven't checked recently. I hope it's not an inconvenience.

*I keep my face a mask, a bit suspicious. Then again, I barely trust my own shadow* I've started a new one, copied over in a digital format, as per BLI procedure. Even executives have a file, one just needs to know where to look.

Good of you. It is important to keep track of your employees. *Riley's last comment is a bit worrisome, though. I don't really want him poking around. I decide a change of subject might be in order... and besides, he /did/ say I could ask questions.* Speaking of keeping track of employees, I've met our new analyst, Miss Erickson, and she's trying to figure out who might be aiding killjoys from inside the Tower.

That's fantastic. The computer techs were quite excited when they learned of her transfer from New York BLI. She has quite a reputation already. I'll have to meet with her. I want to see if she can trace back killjoy radio signal and predict the likelihood of a killjoy hideout actually being occupied, among other projects...
*My voice trails off, I realize I'm rambling. I never talk this much, especially to a stranger. I must be more tired than I thought. I rub the bridge of my nose under my glasses, trying to wake up*

*Feeling talkative, is he? I really don't mind. The man has a lovely voice when he's not barking orders.* I wouldn't be surprised if she can figure that out. It would be very useful... save patrols having to waste missions on unoccupied targets. As for the break-in, though, it's a bit worrisome. The killjoys managed to black out very widespread numbers of cameras. It seemed a bit of an overkill, to me, and definitely beyond what they should have been able to do. Like I said, Sandra's looking into employee backgrounds, but I was wondering - are we sure the killjoys who did the hacking were the only ones here?

No, we're not sure. I was out at the time, unfortunately. I'd like you to keep working on this with Sandra. Once we identify the mode of break-in, we have two options: fix it or leave it as a trap. I'm actually in favor of the former as opposed to the latter. I'd hate to have rats running around the tower. Many of them are too good with a blaster.

*I incline my head* Happy to oblige. And I agree with you there - if we're going to be hunting down killjoys, I'd rather it be on our own terms. A trap laid in the desert has a far lower chance of needless casualties than does leaving our windows unlocked and hoping our staff is ready for a break-in.
*Much as I'm enjoying our talk, he's looking more worn-out by the minute. I wonder how much sleep he's gotten lately.* You look tired, Riley. All the coffee in the world won't help if you put off sleeping for too long. Shall we call it a day?

*after a while, unscrews the vent cover completely, lays it inside the vent, then silently drops down into Orwell's office, hand ready on the only gun I have*

*Wilson leaves and I am left alone. Todays events have exhausted me and with the little amount of sleep I have had I feel as though I might collapse where I am standing. I yawn and run a hand through my hair, then walking to the window to pull down the shades, needing it dark in the room before I can sleep. With another yawn I turn and freeze when I see a movement off to the side. I squint as my eyes adjust, feeling myself tense up.*

*I frown, feeling my fists clench up. My eyes adjust and I see it is a killjoy, though one I am not familiar with. I slowly begin moving towards my desk where I can push a button under the top to signal for help. I watch him and notice the gun in his hand and I regret taking my holster off and leaving it by the front. I have to be smart if I am weaponless. Keep him talking.* Oh, you bet. We had a huge raid on a factory, met a few of your friends. Perhaps they are your friends, all the colors confuse me. You all look the same. *I smirk and watch his reaction, calculating the time I have.*

*takes hand off gun* You do that a lot don't you? The last time met, you took someone from me. Which is why I'm here.
