*It is a long ride but eventually we arrive at our destination. It's an old factory with several dilapidated houses and buildings scattered within a mile radius. I climb out of the van and look around, holding a hand against my forehead to shield my eyes from the glaring sunlight. I motion for everyone to climb outside and begin dividing them up into teams.* Before we can camp for tonight I want you all to divide and search these houses for any recent activity. If you find any, radio it in, otherwise I want you all back here at 6:00 when we will begin setting up camp for the night. This is the best place we could find for a week zone patrol in zone 4 and offers the best view of the surrounding foothills.

*I slowly walk off on my own, both guns drawn, my muscles tensed for action. Mahoney is my given partner, but I don't really think she wants to be around me at all currently. Besides, this town seems rather sleepy. I don't think anything's going to jump out at me. As soon as I think that, something moves out of a doorway, and I fire both guns at it quickly. The coyote I just shot (which has three eyes, an effect of radiation) slumps to the ground with a high-pitched whine. I edge into the house it just came out of, weapons primed once more.*

*everyone seems to go off by themselves so I do the same. It's fairly quiet here. Nothing moves as I shift my gun to my other hand and look around*

*My first inclination is to head out by myself, but no matter how appealing that may sound, I know it's not a good idea. If killjoys are a threat I need to have backup, being practically weaponless, and if Orwell and Wilson are a threat there's a small possibility they might be unwilling to take action with witnesses nearby. I shadow a few of the others as they spread out, not approaching them but staying within sight and sound. The area looks largely deserted, though it's hard to tell how fresh the numerous tracks are in the sand. There hasn't been a storm in the area for several weeks, so there's no telling exactly how long they've been here.*
*I hear a high-pitched noise some distance away and look over to see Pacis stepping over some kind of animal and entering a house. Why she's going in alone, I'm not sure.*

*I radio Aerith before I get out of the van* We need to talk when we get back about this Noah Carbon... and I'll see if I can knock off some of your black book names, but you know I have more pressing matters, ok?
*Aerith gives me the names and I write them down. When I get out John is already spreading out the unit. As they disperse I talk quietly to him* Let's get rid of Max as soon as possible. I don't want him causing any more trouble. Let's let him walk a ways and then take him on from both sides, when no one else is around. Sound good?
*I have a standard BLI gun and several backup batteries. The gun is already on its highest setting. I don't want to take any chances*

*I push open the front door of the house, eliciting a creaking noise from it's old, untiled hinges. A puff of dust blows back once I open it, and I cough quietly as some of it hits me right in the face. No one has come in through this door in a while, it seems. But that doesn't mean there aren't other entrances. I raise my voice.* Hello?

*Orwell and I spread out, following Max, but not too closely. He stays within sight of a couple of the other members of the unit, but I can't tell if it's on purpose or not. Orwell is out of sight, presumably on the other side of Max somewhere. If he would just go into a building...*
*The sun beats down. I'm already sweating and it's not even midday. Damn desert*

*I continue between the buildings as the other members of the unit start dividing up further. I think I see movement farther down, near a broken-down shack at the end of the row. None of the draculoids have gone that far, though, and I move to the side and head towards it, momentarily forgetting that my unit might be more of a threat than killjoys right now*

*I smile as Max moves farther off. I hope Orwell is seeing this. He gets the first shot, of course, but no matter what Max isn't coming out alive. Back at the Tower I had exchanged my usual lab coat for a white drac coat and utility belt. I can feel the weight of the extra batteries as I keep Max just in sight. I silently weave between buildings and keep an eye out for any sign he sees me. Suddenly the wall explodes right above my head and I realize someone is shooting at me. Shit. Real killjoys*

*I spin around when I hear the shots fired, and see someone jump back as splinters of scorched wood fly through the air around him. I start to run over and help, but freeze when I realize it's Wilson. All my paranoia rushes back, and I realize no one else is in sight. I turn in a quick circle, trying to decide how to react. Do I hunt out the killjoys like normal? Am I sure Wilson was following me? And if so, should I try to escape into the desert while I have the time?*

*I automatically hit the ground when I hear shots fired. In a moment, when I'm sure that I'm not the one under fire, I stand up, abandon my efforts in the house of dust and coyotes (the only inhabitants, I soon find, were the one I killed and a second one that yelps and runs as it sees me) and start running toward the sounds of the gunshots, where I assume another member of my unit is. I was expecting it to be one of the less competent Crows (and that's me saying so) who had revealed their position, but instead I see Wilson and, a little farther off, Max. In case they don't want me around, I stop and lean against a wall, watching around the corner to see if I am needed.*

I think so. *I shake my head at Morand, looking back outside again and gesturing at the ramshackle hut in the distance. It looks like sort of place that Killjoys would hide out in. And the gunshots sound like they're coming from that direction.*

*I automatically shoot in the direction the shots were fired at. I quickly duck behind a wall and take out my radio* RB: /shots fired NW of vans. A and B teams converge, C and D teams keep patrolling. A and B teams, I want the killjoys alive if possible.
*Putting my radio away and crouching low, I begin to make my way toward the most likely building, a hut a little ways off*
