*I step out of the elevator and freeze, theres something I need to remember but the thought quickly leaves and I snap out of it. My companions stare at me* What? What are you two looking at? *I walk past them* Who's the girl anyway? Not like you to need a partner

*I stop and turn back around* I don't need a partner *Stares at Vespa* They hold me back. No offence and all that *I continue walking til I reach the doors of the scarecrow department* What am I doing down here anyway? I should report back to the lab *They both smirk*

Oh I can manage, you wait and see *I walk out of the crow department with a dozen dracs behind me. We reach the lift and I turn* You lot, go secure the girl. I have one more thing to do before I join you. OH and people, we want her alive. The others you can kill. *They all disperse down the staircase and I step inside the lift. There is exquist music playing that keeps me amused*

*We land on the rooftop of the Better Living tower. We can see the whole city and into the deserts. I take the killjoy by the arm while she's gazing at the sight around us. There is a door that leads into the building and down a flight of stairs. We enter the elevator with an escort of 3 crow agents. No words are said. The kid still looks frightened but I pay no attention. We step off at floor 17 where we are met by Korse and Vespa* I thought you said it was going to be difficult! *I lead the kid down the hall and into a room* You're gonna have to wait here for a few minutes. I'll be right back *I exit the room* I want that door locked and guarded. Noone enters but me!

*We step out of Ms Sacramento's office and back into the elevator* I don't see why you'd need a guard Max. I for one dont think you need babysitting *We step out on the Records Department floor*

Thank you. *I follow her down the hall* What do you know about this girl? Why is she wanted?

I don't know thats why I need the family records. She said that our people burned her house down recently with her family inside. I'd like to know why. She also said her parents were killjoys and her house was a safehouse so I want to know what she has overheard. Then we can give her a thought adjustment and send her back into education

Sounds fine to me. *There's a pause as we walk* How long was she out in the Zones? She's young, I understand, so she must have had help. *I pretend not to watch Faith. I don't really care about the killjoy, but I'd like to see how far I can push Faith before her headaches kick in.*

She's a kid. Lived in zone one, moved to 3 after her sister was born. There are killjoys swarming all over those zones like pests. Of course she had help. Her father was a killjoy. Or werent you listening?

Just because her father was a killjoy doesn't mean he taught her how to be one. *I smooth my cuff* You said she was with killjoys when you found her - how many of them did you exterminate?

Do you know what undercover means Max? I was given a specific job. Get the kid and get out. Its up to the patrols to do the slaying. Besides, I'm a fan of mental torture. More fun. There was 4 killjoys around and I've been to 2 of their 'safehouses'. I'll be back for them although I doubt I'll have too, more than likely they'll come to us. Target has been captured but I need her family details *He goes to get the file. I turn back to max* Things are gonna change quite swiftly now that I've been switched to the SCARECROW dept make no doubt about it

*I suppress a smile* It just seems to me that it would have been... prudent to have eliminated as many of the killjoys as possible while you were among them undetected. I assume they're aware that you are not what you seem by now. You no longer have an identity to protect.

There are always ways around that *I take the file* Extermination is one thing, recruitment is another. Most out there started from genuinely good beginings. I've been working on something to eliminate all memories of the zones from their minds so they can come back to us. Forgiveness is still something I like to uphold and I have some great jobs lined up as toilet cleaners for anyone that we get back *I smile as I walk back toward the elevator* Forgiveness is essential but we must never forget what they've done

Yes, I'm sure that's all true. Personally, I'd rather make an example of those who make the wrong choices. *I stand next to Faith, waiting for the elevator doors to open* What did you think about Better Living when you were a killjoy? Did you approve of their methods?

When I what? *I burst into laughter* The only time I was ever a filthy killjoy was under bli orders and that was to get the kid. Get that thought out of your head. *I step into the elevator still laughing at the thought*

Hm. *I lean against the wall of the elevator as the doors close* I used to be a killjoy. After I was brought here I didn't remember it for the longest time. As far as I was concerned I'd always been in the tower. But you're probably right. Silly of me. *I keep watching her*
