Awake and Alive

*I open my eyes only to close them again tightly, the brightness of the room was stupidly bright. Once my eyes are finaly open and have adjusted to the room I take a look around. I'm in a hospital bed with IV's sticking out of my arms, but I'm not sure why I'm here. When I try to remember how I got here all I'm hit by are scatterd memories of fire and fighting, Killjoys and Dracs. I don't remember anything, I don't even know my name... everything feels like a far of dream I can't put the pieces back together. A doctor walks holding onto a clipboard.*

Ah, hello. It's good to see you awake.

Wh-Where am I? Who am I? *I go to ask more questions but I'm cut off*

I will explain everything. *The Doc takes a seat in one of the two chairs in the room.* Recently Battery City was under attack, You know what Battery City is don't you? *I nod my head eager for him to carry on.* Okay, well anyway so the city was under attack and you had been making your way over to the tower to hand in your job application, correct? *I don't really remember that happening but I look to the left and there it is, sitting on the bedside table. So I nod again.* You wanted to become a Drac, or mabye a Crow, depending on your own personal choice. Anyway the attack started and there was a car bomb and you were pretty close to it, you've been here since.

*I sit in silence pondering on everything he just said.* So I wanted to be a Drac... Doctor, when am I able to leave? Not being horrible or nothing but I hate staying in the same place for to long.

You can leave tomorrow, you can even start working tomorrow if you please. *He motions to the piece of paper next to me.* I took the pleasure of handing it in for you, I hope you don't mind? *I shake my head at him.* Okay well if that's all I'll be leaving, we've just had another break and entry, I'm guesing Killjoys, so I've got myself a couple of new patients. *He get's up and walks over to the door.*

Wait, one last question Doc. Do I have any... relatives? You know like a sister or a mum or dad?

*The doctor sighs* No, I'm very sorry. You've always been an onlychild and your parents did during the bombing. You're pills and the guidlines are next to you, they'll make you feel better. Have a better day.
*He leaves the room and closes the door behind him. I reach over for the pills, a small pot with a smily face on it and a piece of paper taped to the lid, I give it a quick read... twice a day.... first week.... Blablabla... I open up the lid and grab a pill, dry swallowing it, as usual the Doctors right I do feel better, I'm not worried about being here or what had happend before I got here. I grab the piece of paper from the table and have a quick read.*

Well Amy, looks like your going to be the newest Drac in the building

*The Doctor comes in the next morning to check on me but I'm already awake and out of bed. He smiles as he walks in*

Good morning Amy, all I need you to do is sign these forms and you're ready to leave.

*He hands me the few pieces of paper and I sign them quickly wanting to leave the hospital and start working.* Where do I go from here?

*He hands me a small layout of the tower* You'll need to report here for a Drac test, it's nothing to dificult, just a basic speed and strength test so you should pass easily. If you have any problems at all, your medication isn't working properly, something dosn't feel right with you or whatever it might be, please let me know. Have a better day Amy and good luck.

*And with that he leaves the room. I take another tablet and I'm instantly relaxed I don't feel nervous about the test or what I have to do or who I'm going to meet. I leave the room and follow the layout until I arrive at the right place, I open the door to a big room with an obsticule course, a shooting range and a small gym type thing. A couple of people catch my eye, two Dracs watching the tranieé's and taking down notes, I walk up to them with a smile* Hi, I'm Amy I've just left the hospital wing and was told to come here?

Ah yes, Amy. We've been expecting you, Doc says you've made a full recovery and should be perfect for the job. Could you stand over there by the line and wait for my mark, then you can start the course. It's fairly straight forward, you have to get from one end to the other as fast as you can using whatever method suits you. Of course you have a time to beat, once you've finished we'll move on to the firing range where we'll see which gun is more suited for you.

Okay, thanks. *I walk over and wait at the line. The course did seem quite easy, some walls I got to climb, Things I need to crawl under, jumping, sprinting all the normal stuff. I wait for his mark and as soon as the whistle is blown I run.*

*I wait at the end of the course when I see the two Dracs walking over to me* Very good Amy. The time to beat was 1:30 and you did it in. *He looks down at the clipboard he's holding* 48 seconds well done. Now, will you please follow me. *We walk over to the firing range where there's a selection of targets at different distances and hights.* Okay, could you pick up the first gun and shoot the closest target three times.

*I see the gun he's talking about, a standard Bli raygun. I pick it up and aim down sight, the first target isn't to far away and I hit it easily. One shot in the head another in the heart and another in the stomach. I leave the gun on the side.*

Very good. Next gun please. *I walk up to the next gun, it's an average rifle, not a sniper or anything special though.* Same as before shoot the target three times.

*I take aim and notice the target is much further away, this is going to be a bit more dificult seeing as the rifle dosn't have a scope on it. I take the first shot and the laser goes flying into the targets chest. I hear someone call out from behind the target.* Hit! *I take another shot not seeing where it landed* Miss! *My last shot, I pull the trigger and see the laser hit the target.* Hit!

Not bad Amy, don't worry about the miss most people miss a shot on this gun. Okay your last gun, a sniper. Very similar to the rifle you just used but the lasers go further, faster and a lot more powerfull. Take aim. *I pick up the sniper, a bit nervous seeing as I've never fired one before but shake away the feeling. I take a deep breath and aim through the scope. There's three individual targets hiding in different places, one behind a second story window, one hiding behind a barrel on the roof and another behind a car.* Shoot all three targets once, make sure that you would only need to shoot them once, like if this was a real life situation. When your ready.

*I aim at the one on the room, the targets head just poking out a little I take the shot and hear someone shout out.* Hit! Head, fatal. *My next target is in the window, due to the lack of light in the room the target is placed in it's really hard to see the detail. I take the shot anyway.* Hit! Chest, fatal. *I aim at the car, this shot is the most difficult, the target is basicly behind the car not showing any part of it's body that would be one fatal shot. I take a chance and shoot through the car door. I love lasers.* Hit! Shoulder, not fatal. *I sigh and set the gun down*

Very good Amy. Even though the last shot didn't kill the target it left him open for capture, well done! Now all we need to do is see you fight. Please follow me and I'll show you you're sparring partner.

*I follow him towards the gym thing I saw before, there's a ring painted on the mats and a drac standing at one end looking at me, he's a lot bigger then me and I mean a lot...*

*I can't remember how, when or why I learnt it but boy was I good at martial arts. I managed to walk away with only a fat lip, I pop another pill to calm the affect of adrenaline and walk over to the Dracs.* Well?

Well, your still standing so you pass. Here. *He hands me a key and directions.* Due to the fact that your now a Drac, your part of Bli/nd and your house was destroyed during the viper attack, Bli decided to give you a one bedroom apartment within the city so you have somewhere to live until you earn enough money to buy your own. I recomend you get settled in before you do anything else. Welcome to Better Living Amy. *The Dracs both shake my hand and walk away.*

Well, I guess I'll find my new place then see what unit I'm joining tomorrow. *obviously I'm talking to myself I always have done. I follow the directions and eventually get to my apartment, it wasn' to far away from the city so I didn't have to worry about transport. I put the key in the look and twist letting out a sigh of happyness when it unlocks. i walk in shutting the door behind me and don't even bother to look around, I just find the nearest bed and fall on top of it, drifting into a heavy sleep.*

*When I wake up it wasn't as happy and peacefull as I expected it to be. No, I woke up suddenly breathing heavily; I remember seeing faces, Killjoys, fire... It was horrible.*
*I get myself out of bed and jump in the shower. After getting dressed and deciding what to do with my hair, which I never noticed was jet black before, I make my way towards to tower. On my way to the tower I make a mental note to get some more pills, the Doctor only gave me a small pot, I guess it's so I wouldn't have to many?*
*I get to the tower and decide to walk around for a bit, the lovely woman at the reception said that most of the units are out on patrol, or raids. I don't understand why people would want to live out in the desert anyway.*

*A Unit comes back with a few Killjoys and I head to the holding area just to have a look, A lot of them will become Dracs and the others well, let's see if they cooporate.*
*It's surprising what you hear by just walking around a few times, apparently there ways a break in the day I arrived in the tower and the Killjoys ran off with a member of the Bli staff, why would they want to do that? Anyway the were seen on security footage so it shouldn't be long before they figure out who is who and a team will be sent out to retrive them. To be honest I don't agree with the fighting between Bli and Killjoy, all we want to do is help, I mean what's so bad about living inside a city, in your own home, with real food?*
*I continue to walk around, learning where everything is. I pass a man I've passed about three times already and recive a confused look which I answer with a smile. There must be a lounge around here somewhere, I'm dying for a cup of tea.*
