Some of you may have seen this on my dA page but I figured I'd post it here so if anyone else would like to do it they can. (Volume haha) 1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? -Mainly bad. They were completely normal parents in most regards but they didn't understand Sylvia. As a teenager she was angry and they didn't quite know how to deal with her. Sylvia was always independent so they weren't ever really there for her. Then BLI came to power and all paternal connection was lost. Think super happy 50's american household. 2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features? -Her freaking curly hair. I usually draw it long, just shorter than shoulder blade length. But she also has very big eyes. 3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don't have any, is there a reason? -On the left side of her abdomen and lower back is a jagged scar where she was stabbed through with a sword after killing a Japanese chairboard member to BLI. 4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? -Sylvia knows she is pretty to some extent and isn't afraid to put herself out there but over all her personality is humble. She doesn't wear a lot of make up or do much with her hair. 5.) What's your character's ranking on the Kinsey Scale? - 0. Sylvia will admit a girl is attractive but in no way thinks of it sexually or anything but beauty. She is very straight. Loves her men. ha. 6.) Describe your character's happiest memory. - When she escaped into the wilderness with Burbank and their kids. They were away from everything for a few months and even though they had to work to survive they were happy. 7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why? - The death of Nicolas and Rita Williams. They were all part of the Ritalin Rat gang and Main was put in charge of a raid on a factory. Eddy Lean told her no dracs would be there but they were ambushed and her friends were killed. Their child was left orphaned and still trusts(ed) Main even though everyone accused her of tipping off BLI. 8.) Day of Favorites! What's your character's favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower? -Vanilla. Grey's and other dark colors such as marroon, navy blue, and olive green. Song? Holy shit, let me make a list. Who cares about flowers? 9.) Who does your character trust? - Herself. 10.) Can you define a turning point in your character's life? Multiples are acceptable. - When Eddy Lean and the rest of the RR gang were so violent to her and shunning that she escaped into the zones where she managed to grow up and began to make amends with herself. 11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character? - It sounds so cliché but I suppose a cat. Elegant yet feral. Very independent and not very trusting. 12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email? -She knows the basics, isn't a nerd but knows how to work things. Can hack a vending machine, work a radio, use BLI computers. 13.) What does your character's bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep? - Face buried in the pillow, laying on her stomach with the blankets wrapped around her upper back. Maybe a leg sticking out and arms under the pillow. So sprawled and everywhere. 14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold? - Ugh, she hates it. Hates the heat, hates extreme cold. But she would much, much rather be cold than hot. 15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl? - Both. Loves night life and sitting outside when the desert is cool while the sun rises. She doesn't sleep much except for when she eventually crashes. 16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative? - None. Her parents where only childs as was she. Her grandparents died when she was young and any second cousins probably died in the war. 17.) What's your character's desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy? - Neat with a few papers and pens laid out in a pile. Maybe a white rubiks cube sitting in the corner. A doodle pinned up. 18.) Is your character a good cook? What's their favorite recipe, whether they're good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.) - Ugh, Main barely eats and is an all right cook. She just doesn't care for the kitchen. Order a pizza or go out. Now... drinks... that's a different story. 19.) What's your character's preferred means of travel? - When in the city she takes the bus unless she can catch a ride from a coworker. She hates driving even though she isn't bad at it. If you get her a sportsbike though, she'll drive the thing around forever. 20.) Does your character have any irrational fears? - Yes. Heights, pregnant people, and touching. She very rarely does hugging or any sort of physical contact because she considers it very intimate. If she's comfortable with someone touching is alright, especially a boyfriend in which case she probably always wants to touch in some manner. 21.) What would your character's cutie mark be? -.... what the hell.....? Explain? 22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go? - The 1920's to the 1940's. Very serious yet fun times where everyone is so.. human. 23.) Is your character superstitious? - Nope. Believes in ghosts to a point but isn't afraid of being cursed or anything. 24.) What might your character's ideal romantic partner be? - Calm, sarcastic, to himself. A male mirror image. Maybe with scruff. Ha. 25.) Describe your character's hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby? - Kind of broad palms but long skinny fingers. Doesn't grow out her fingernails, probably has ink or paint on them. Or dirt if it's a sand storm but otherwise fairly smooth and clean. 26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday. - Loves french toast. And.. sex. Ha, who doesn't? Loves a v-neck sweater and skinny jeans. Coffee! (and tea). Fall and thanksgiving. 27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them. - I'll post this as a comment later, I really, truly can't only pick 2 songs for Sylvia. 28.) If your character's life was a genre, what would it be? - I'm not sure. She's hipster to a point, just different and unique compared to everyone around her. 29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne? -Mmmm, she wears my lotion. Bath and Body's Twilight Woods. ( )
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself. - No thanks. It'd be too sappy and personal.

1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? When her dad was alive, they weren't close at all and barely talked, even though they lived in the same house. Her mom knew her a lot better. She wasn't spoiled per se, because her family wasn't rich enough, but they let her get away with a lot. At present, her father is dead and her mother is on the pills, so she talks to neither.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features? Huge maple-syrup colored eyes with long lashes, almost-black brown hair with a brightly colored streak in it (color varies). She's also incredibly skinny from lack of food in the Zones. As in skin-and-bones skinny. If you hug her, you can feel her ribs without even exerting much force.
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don't have any, is there a reason? She has three long, parallel scars on her right shoulder from when Basilisk tried to tear her to shreds.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? Not at all! She actually thinks that she's very ugly and is always incredibly surprised when anyone compliments her appearance.
5.) What's your character's ranking on the Kinsey Scale? First of all, let me just say that I had to look this up. But Vol's a 0.
6.) Describe your character's happiest memory. She doesn't really have one. Things that made her happy before the Helium Wars seem trivial and stupid to her now and she's stopped caring about them.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why? Her friend, Double Cross, dying because of a test of Vol's invention that went Costa Rica. Poor Volume still has nightmares about that, and it's the main reason for her fear of blood.
8.) Day of Favorites! What's your character's favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower? Cookie Dough (although, after so long in the Zones, she'd take anything). Black. Anything by My Chemical Romance. And she likes cherry blossoms, mainly for the smell.
9.) Who does your character trust? She'll trust anyone she's gotten to know well enough. This usually leads to heartbreak. Her trust is continually getting more and more fragile, though, so there might come a time when she trusts no one, not even her best friends.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character's life? Multiples are acceptable. The bombing of NYC, the death of her old friend, Alec, and the end of the Beetle Bomb crisis. These turned her into Original Volume, Insanity Volume, and back to Original Volume, respectively.
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character? Volume's sort of like a puppy that you'd find in a shelter. She's hesitant about trusting people, because she's been hurt badly before, but once she fully trusts a person, there's a spot in her heart for them forever.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email? Not horrible. She has her AI robot, Caroline, but she actually found the ENTIRE ROBOT out in the desert somewhere. (IA and I have decided that it was a prototype of Hank Manson's LaCY that was thrown out because it was too non-homicidal. That's fine with Volume.) She knows how to set up traps, hack vending machines, and fix guns, but not much else.
13.) What does your character's bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep? The blankets are usually a bit scrunched up, but not too much. The biggest change is that she usually ends up hugging a pillow. She sleeps predominantly on her right side, but moves around until she goes to sleep, hence the scrunched blankets.
14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold? Ugh, no. She hates the cold with a passion. Not so much with heat, as she has grown used to incredibly high temperatures in the Zones, but she gets really cold really quickly.
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl? Whatever she needs to be. Volume is pretty much always the one keeping watch through the night, unless she crashes, in which case no one bothers to wake her up because it might be the only sleep she has for the next two days.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative? She used to be fairly close to her brother before she forced him onto the pills. (To protect him. Don't judge her.)
17.) What's your character's desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy? She doesn't have a workspace, really....
18.) Is your character a good cook? What's their favorite recipe, whether they're good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.) Not really; she used to be okay, able to cook pasta without it exploding, but so much time in the Zones eating canned food has made her forget everything she knew. At present, the most she could make would be toast. She loves anything with fruit, though, because it's such a luxury.
19.) What's your character's preferred means of travel? She loves her muscle cars with a passion.
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears? Blood. (See Question 7 for why.) It really hinders her ability to help people when they're injured, but she gets nauseous if she smells blood or sees one of her friends actually bleeding. She has no problem with animal blood or enemy blood, though. It's a really specific fear....
21.) What would your character's cutie mark be? Her Volume V. No, it's not a special talent, but IDGAF.
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go? Right back before the Helium Wars. She misses the relative peace.
23.) Is your character superstitious? Not really. She doesn't believe in luck or anything of the sort. The only supernatural thing she believes is the "Your shadow lives on without you" tenet of Dr. Death-Defying.
24.) What might your character's ideal romantic partner be? Someone who would put up with her and care about her as much as she cares about them. Above all, someone who won't hurt her and will try to protect her.
25.) Describe your character's hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby? Small, thin hands. Her fingers move really fast if she has reason to do so (like typing in codes to hack something, rapidfire shooting, or piano playing).
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday. Any sort of fruit, sleep (which is sort of like a vice for her, because she's usually the one on watch), her original Volume-V shirt (with the uneven sleeves), white hot chocolate, early autumn (when it hasn't gotten too cold yet), Halloween.
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them. ...I can't decide this, really.
28.) If your character's life was a genre, what would it be? ...tragedy? I don't know. XD
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne? She rarely gets to shower (the girl lives in a goddamn nuclear wasteland), but she has this huge bottle of body spray that smells like vanilla that she'll use whenever she feels like she smells bad.
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself. I'd rather not write one out, as I have homework, but I'd probably say something about how I wish I was NEARLY as cool as her.

1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? IA's parents were... adequate... to say the least. They weren't the best parents, but they were by no means the worst. He did everything he could to earn their admiration, but in the end, he was never good enough. He was constantly trying to impress them, and when he couldn't, he turned to others. This led to him becoming a show off, and partially inspired his turn to a military state of mind. Overall he loved his parents unconditionally, and feared that they never felt the same way. When the Dracs came in and ghosted his parents, he lost all means with which to find that answer.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features? IA is relatively average, though he does have a more rugged and rough cut face. His most prominent feature is probably the many scars his body is covered with. He was never a fan of badges during the war.
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don't have any, is there a reason? IA has a scar on his chest shaped like a cigarette burn. He got this during a small known battle in a city called Fresno before the war. It was a small battle, more of a civil uprising, but it was his first battle as a commander, and with Basilisk.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? IA is incredibly vain. It was his own way of getting past his feeling of rejection that his parents constantly put him through. He's good enough for himself, and therefore perfect.
5.) What's your character's ranking on the Kinsey Scale? 2. IA is a 2. Shut your face.
6.) Describe your character's happiest memory. The happiest memory IA has would be the day that the bombs dropped. At first, he was greatly distraught and saddened, but now he realized that while his old life is gone, and he truly does live in Hell, only the strong survive, and it's the life IA always truly wanted.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why? IA's first girlfriend was amazingly special and sweet. He's like to forget her completely.
8.) Day of Favorites! What's your character's favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower? Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Black. Platypus (I Hate You), Roses
9.) Who does your character trust? IA will trust anyone he has fought along side with. He firmly believes that you can never truly know someone until you have faced death with them. This has bitten him on the ass on more than one occasion.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character's life? Multiples are acceptable. When IA joined the military, though brief and never fully realized, it marked his transition from a school boy to a warrior. He dropped the camera and picked up a rifle, and from then on, it was meant to be.
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character? IA is a dirt covered Lab. He's rugged looking, and incredibly sweet and loyal. But he's the most deadly mother fucker you'll ever meet, and he'll tear your throat out without remorse.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email? If it's a gun, or camera related, he can most likely build/fix it. Anything more advanced and he'll just hit it til it works.
13.) What does your character's bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep? Bed? You mean that thing he uses to hide his guns/porn?
14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold? IA loves the cold. He can tolerate the heat, but would rather winter stayed all year round.
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl? He sleeps when he can, which isn't often.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative? The only living member of his family is Dr. When. They don't talk much, but when they do it's always a pleasure.
17.) What's your character's desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy? Covered in guns and pieces of ammunition.
18.) Is your character a good cook? What's their favorite recipe, whether they're good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.) Surprisingly yes. He found he had a knack for it when he was assigned cook for his platoon during the war. He's good at taking random shit and making something somewhat edible.
19.) What's your character's preferred means of travel? He loves the roar of an engine, but nothing beats walking. It's cheap, easy, and fun.
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears? Squirrels. Fucking squirrels. Why? I don't even know. I think it's because when he was little, a squirrel tried to steal his milk bottle.
21.) What would your character's cutie mark be? Fuck my little pony.
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go? IA would go back to just before the Battle of Fresno and put a bullet between Basilisk's eyes.
23.) Is your character superstitious? Fuck no.
24.) What might your character's ideal romantic partner be? IA needs someone who isn't going to go out and get themselves almost killed every minute. He also needs someone artistic and willing to compromise on his attitude. Overall, he just wants someone stronger than him. He needs a crutch, he can't lean on himself much longer.
25.) Describe your character's hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby? He has big, calloused hands from years of burns, scratches, and scrapes. He has almost no feeling in them anymore.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday. Pizza, fighting (Don't know the definition of vice... so fighting is it!), Military jacket with cargo pants and combat boots, coffee!!!!, Winter, halloIEROween.
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them. The first would be Creep, by Radiohead, as this perfectly describes how IA felt early on before the war. He was unwanted and under appreciated, still trying to find his place in the world. The second would be The Grouch, by Green Day, which reflects him now in his current state. He's found his place int he world, but now that he has served his use, he feels that he is becoming useless and possibly, just another shitty old man.
28.) If your character's life was a genre, what would it be? Tragedy. There's not gonna be a happy ending for IA. Did i say that out loud? Fuck it.
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne? Most likely he smells of dried blood and dirt. He's pretty good about normal hygiene, but that stuff is kinda unavoidable.
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself. IA, I know it's hard, and i know it's going to be a long journey. Mom and dad are alright, and Nicole is fine. In this place, we're okay. In this place, we don't feel much. Don't feel like you abandoned me, don't feel like you've left us. We left you, not because we wanted to, but because we had to. You're a better person now, and you're finally on your own. I know you'll never get this letter, but mom and dad say they're proud of you. They always have been. I know you'll never get this letter, but i never really died. -Mike.

1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? Red’s parents were the best! They were loving, caring people who believed in letting their little girl discover the world when she was ready to. They loved taking her and her two siblings to parks and zoos. Red had two older brothers. All her family died in the Helium wars… or so we think (hell, I’m just leaving it open) 2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features? Brown, straight hair and short stature. She’s 15, but she looks like a 12 year old thanks to the intense training and BLI drugs. 3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don't have any, is there a reason? Scar on her shoulder from where a killjoy threw a knife at her on her first day working with Max. If she had avoided the knife, he could have got away, but she held her ground. 4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? Red has been trained to keep a neat appearance, so she just makes sure she is clean and her hair is brushed. She does not consider herself attractive. 5.) What's your character's ranking on the Kinsey Scale? Red hasn’t considered relationships yet… hmmmm… 6.) Describe your character's happiest memory. When Red escaped into the zones with Max and Max let her choose their path. It was her first moment of freedom. 7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why? She’d like to forget Max telling her to forget him and that he would forget her as well. Practically ripped her heart in two. 8.) Day of Favorites! What's your character's favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower? Red loves chocolate mint chip, even though the kind they serve in the BLI cafeteria is a poor approximation. Her favorite color is blue and she has no basis for a favorite song or flower. 9.) Who does your character trust? She used to trust Max. Retro and Angie are growing on her… She does not trust herself. 10.) Can you define a turning point in your character's life? Multiples are acceptable. When Wilson picked her for BLI training and gave her the name ‘Red’. Everything before that is a blur. 11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character? I liked vol’s description of Red: A sad little puppy. 12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email? Super savvy thanks to BLI. She can operate most vehicles, fire most any gun, and rewire a power generator if she has to. 13.) What does your character's bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep? Red disappears into the bed because she is so small. She curls up on her side, all super cute. 14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold? Who doesn’t hate extreme temperatures? We’re homeotherms! 15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl? Would rather stay up late, but usually has to wake up early as well. She’s just good at functioning on a few hours of sleep. 16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative? They’re all dead or think she’s dead. 17.) What's your character's desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy? She’s neat, mostly out of paranoia that she’ll get in trouble if she’s not. If Red was not raised by BLI, she’d be very messy. 18.) Is your character a good cook? What's their favorite recipe, whether they're good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.) She can heat rations… yeah. 19.) What's your character's preferred means of travel? She loves anything with an engine, especially is she gets to drive. To Red, any sort of travel is a form of freedom. 20.) Does your character have any irrational fears? Nope, just many rational fears. 21.) What would your character's cutie mark be? 22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go? Red would go see her family from before the wars. 23.) Is your character superstitious? Nope. She’d need to hear more ghost stories, etc, in order to be superstitious. 24.) What might your character's ideal romantic partner be? A kind, considerate person. Somebody that could be very patient as Red catches up, emotionally 25.) Describe your character's hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby? Red has small hands that are calloused and scarred from all her training. Many of the scars are very light thanks to Red’s accelerated healing rate. 26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday. Red loves burgers, hot chocolate, clean clothes, winter, and Christmas (because she actually gets time off) 27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them. This might be a stupid question, but MCR songs? I’ll change my answer once this point is clarified. 28.) If your character's life was a genre, what would it be? SCI-FI. Hands down. Maybe horror sci-fi. 29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne? Like dove unscented soap. She just smells clean 30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself. Dear Red, If you met me in real life, you’d probably want to kill me. Putting that aside, I want you to remember that you are a strong and I see great potential in your future. I have more I want to say, but it gets rather personal from there. Ha, you probably know it anyway. Love, other Red

I’ll do –Before and –After for some of these, since there’s a pretty huge difference. Also, I’m answering these for him pre-electroconvulsive therapy, because I think he’ll get his memories back at some point.
1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? -Max had a very good relationship with his parents; he had a small family, so they stuck together close. They could be strict, but always made it clear that they loved him. Trust and respect were huge parts of being family. As for whether they get along now, they were killed by BL/I so I guess that’s a no…
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features? -Before: Max is very tall, fairly broad shouldered. Gentle giant of sorts. -After: The aforementioned, plus scars from his time as a captive under the Tower. Lots and lots of scars. That’s why he almost always keeps his mask on.
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don't have any, is there a reason? -I’m going to pick two. First, the Y-shaped scar on his chest from when one of his (doctors? Interrogators? Captors?) tried to convince him he was already dead and having an autopsy. Second, the scars on the backs of his hands from when he pulled Red through a gap beneath a metal door.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? -Before: Max always knew he was attractive, but wasn’t particularly vain. -After: Definitely not. He hates his appearance more than anyone; that’s why it was so terrible for him when Red saw his face.
5.) What's your character's ranking on the Kinsey Scale? -Before: 1. He never really considered guys, but was far from a homophobe. -After: X. He has no sexual impulses towards anyone.
6.) Describe your character's happiest memory. -Before: A spring day hike into the desert with his family (mother, father, little brother and sister) one year before the bombs dropped. As a killjoy later on, that memory made it easier to live in the Zones. -After: Driving through the Zones with Red, after they went renegade. He knew it wouldn’t last but he enjoyed seeing her happy.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why? -Only one? The obvious choice would be his family being tortured to death and his own time beneath the Tower, but I think he’d choose when he told Red he was going to forget her. His family’s dead, but he knows Red has to live with thinking he doesn’t care about her anymore.
8.) Day of Favorites! What's your character's favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower? -Before: Vanilla, red (no pun intended), didn’t listen to much music, cactus flowers of any kind. -After: None in particular; he doesn’t think about things like that.
9.) Who does your character trust? -Before: His family, his close friends, and killjoys. He’d grant anyone a measure of trust unless they did something to make him feel otherwise. -After: Red
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character's life? Multiples are acceptable. So many… this dude has way too much mental upset in his life. -When he found out some of BL/i’s darker side during the reconstruction and became a killjoy -When he gave himself up to BL/i; brain damage has a way of changing your personality -When Moniker’s serum forced him to remember his past; he became much more self-aware, though no less disconnected -When he started working with Red; he associated her with his sister and started to connect with someone for the first time in years.
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character? -A wolf, both before and after. Before is the normal, healthy animal, happy in a pack, fierce, loyal, and hardworking. After is White Fang under the care of Beauty Smith: wild, vicious, only controllable with threats of violence.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email? -Reasonably savvy; he’s had all the standard BL/i training. Good with weapons and vehicles, small skills with hacking.
13.) What does your character's bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep? -Before: Slept on his side, all the blankets wrapped around him, pillow probably ending up on the floor. -After: Lies on his back, doesn’t move much if at all; safety precaution for when he’s out in the Zones. Easy to wake up, good at pretending he’s still asleep.
14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold? -Before: Doesn’t like cold, enjoys heat. -After: Doesn’t care either way, so long as he can do his job.
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl? -Before: Early bird; he liked to walk in the desert in the early morning and watch the wildlife. -After: Both; he doesn’t sleep much.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative? -No, he only had his immediate family before, and they’re all dead now. Red could have become like a blood relative, if they hadn’t been split up.
17.) What's your character's desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy? -Before: Neat, in that he knows where everything is. Messy, in that he had a habit of keeping souvenirs like photos, found fossils, and gifts from his little brother and sister. -After: Neat, but only because he would have no reason to leave a mess. But really… Max, with a desk job?
18.) Is your character a good cook? What's their favorite recipe, whether they're good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.) -Before: No skills whatsoever. Favorite recipe would be anything his mother cooked; she was a kitchen goddess. -After: Still no skills, and no opinion as to a favorite. Whatever gives him the most energy and takes the least amount of time to eat.
19.) What's your character's preferred means of travel? -Walking or running, before and after
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears? -Before: No, just healthy respect for things like poisonous snakes. -After: No, unless it’s irrational to be afraid of syringes and scalpels. But he’s good at hiding his discomfort.
21.) What would your character's cutie mark be? -No. Just no.
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go? -Before: The time when grand expeditions were arranged to explore the parts of the map marked “Here there be dragons” -After: Nowhere in particular, assuming the general rule is that nothing can be changed
23.) Is your character superstitious? -No, he’s very rational and down-to-earth
24.) What might your character's ideal romantic partner be? -Before: He wasn’t picky about body type, though he liked long hair. Someone who shared his interests, wasn’t too demanding, had a sense of humor, and got along with his family. -After: Max? Romance?
25.) Describe your character's hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby? -Large, not overly long fingers, calloused. Significantly more scarring afterwards.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday. -Before: Grilled cheese sandwiches, drinking (occasionally), jeans and a loose shirt, black coffee, spring, April Fool’s Day. -After: again, no favorites. If ‘vice’ is taken generally and includes personal flaws, then anger’s in there (though still not a ‘favorite’ in any sense of the word). He’s definitely got a temper.
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them. -Before: “Soul Meets Body”, by Death Cab For Cutie. It’s a good generalization of his outlook on life, though he wouldn’t have expressed it like that. Specifically, it’s relevant to his relationship with his last and most serious girlfriend, who died during the bombings. -After: “Rabbits are Roadkill on Rt. 37” by AFI. Because it really describes him… I mean, look up the lyrics. Really. “What once did exist now is meaningless,” “All I truly know is isolation, self damnation,” “What I knew was wrong, one who lived is gone,” “I can hate myself more than anyone,” etc.
28.) If your character's life was a genre, what would it be? Psychological Horror/Tragedy. And if that’s not a genre, it is now.
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne? No perfume, no cologne, before or after. Whatever soap he can get his hands on. Just clean.
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself. Eh… don’t really feel like it. It’s not like he’d read it, anyway.

1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? -No relationship with her father, as he left when her mother became pregnant. Her mother was fairly neglectful and harsh, though never outright abusive. Money was very tight, and the two of them ended up on the streets a couple times. Arson never admitted how much she wanted her mother’s approval. They never saw each other again after Arson was taken into state custody, and it’s presumed her mother died during the wars.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features? -Her green eyes, and slim figure. No dyed hair, as it would be too hard to keep up in the Zones, though she considered it.
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don't have any, is there a reason? -Burn scars on her hands and forearms; they’ve faded enough over the years that they’re barely noticeable, but she can still see them. At one of her foster homes, she saved a boy who’d started a fire in the bathroom and let it get out of control. She was blamed for setting the fire and sent to an institution for the rest of her teenage years.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? -She doesn’t think she’s anything special, and thus isn’t very vain.
5.) What's your character's ranking on the Kinsey Scale? -2
6.) Describe your character's happiest memory. -Wandering Battery City with Gear at night while she was pretending to be a civilian; for a few hours she could almost believe she had a normal life. Close second is running Zone 3 with Gear during the first few months after he left the city, and helping him learn how to be a killjoy.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why? -Seeing killjoys kill one another during the weeks when Operation Placebo was in effect. She blames herself for not getting the word out soon enough and still has occasional nightmares about the scene outside the old radio tower.
8.) Day of Favorites! What's your character's favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower? -Mint chocolate chip, blue, pretty much anything that comes through clear on the radio, iris.
9.) Who does your character trust? -Gear, absolutely. Her other killjoy friends to a reasonable extent. Distrusts parental figures, which adds to her negative feelings about Belle Sacramento.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character's life? Multiples are acceptable. -When she was blamed for the first fire; it led to her later obsession with fires while in the state institution and the vandalism she got up to with some of the other institution teens, which in turn made it easier for her to leave for the desert.
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character? -Not sure; probably some sort of cat. Adaptable, intelligent, loyal. Happier in small groups than large.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email? -Average with weapons and machinery, higher than average with hacking. Plenty of practice repairing radios.
13.) What does your character's bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep? -Covers are pulled over, she’s curled up on one side of the bed. She’s used to having to share a single mattress as safehouses aren’t exactly five-star hotels, so she doesn’t take up a lot of room.
14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold? -Doesn’t mind the heat too much, though she prefers more neutral temperatures. Dislikes the cold.
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl? -Night owl, definitely. She’d be nocturnal if she were on her own for any length of time.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative? -No; her mother never talked about her family, so Arson’s unaware of any relatives.
17.) What's your character's desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy? -Reasonably neat; everything has a place, whether it’s technically “put away” or not.
18.) Is your character a good cook? What's their favorite recipe, whether they're good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.) -She picks up techniques quickly, though she rarely has time to actually cook anything. Makes a mean vegetable stew. Prefers baking to cooking.
19.) What's your character's preferred means of travel? -Motorcycle; she still wishes she hadn’t lost her neon green bike.
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears? -Spiders; she’ll deal with them, but she won’t be happy about it.
21.) What would your character's cutie mark be? -A burning My Little Pony. Kidding… something involving flame, though. She doesn’t get a chance to burn nearly enough while she’s in the Zones.
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go? -The Victorian era, minus the sexism, slavery, and poor hygiene.
23.) Is your character superstitious? -Not terribly. She thinks ghosts might exist, but hasn’t seen proof. Doesn’t believe in luck.
24.) What might your character's ideal romantic partner be? -Slightly taller than her, attractive, funny, willing to talk. Pretty much everything Gear is, though she won’t admit it. She tells herself it’s because there isn’t time for a relationship when you’re constantly running for your life, but it’s really because she’s afraid something will go wrong and he’ll leave.
25.) Describe your character's hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby? -Long fingers, smooth with some callouses.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday. -Ice cream, setting fires, her killjoy costume, apple cider, early fall, Thanksgiving.
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them. -“Godspeed” by Anberlin. It sums up her experience as a youth; feeling like she was always on the move, always trying to prove herself, and that things just kept getting worse. She always believed she was good at her core, and that she didn’t deserve her life (“They lied when they said the good die young”). -“City” by Hollywood Undead. She thinks of it as her personal killjoy anthem; hiding behind a mask but refusing to be forgotten, she wants to tear down everything that’s wrong with her world even if it seems beautiful – knowing she probably won’t live to see the end (“The city looks so pretty, do you want to burn it with me?”, “I will not die in the night but in the light of the sun with the ashes of this world in my lungs”)
28.) If your character's life was a genre, what would it be? -Hm… modern day fantasy.
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne? -She likes the smell of lilac, so if she ever found lilac-scented soap or the like she’d use it. Otherwise, the desert and matches.
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself. Why is this question such a pain? I don’t think I’ll answer it. Too much effort involved.
