Hey Everyone!
Just reporting from a Starbucks in-between camp sites in Eastern Oregon. Spent yesterday excavating giant fish fossils from a quarry! My fellow undergraduate got me a surplus military utility belt, so I spent half the day strutting around in the desert like I imagined a killjoy would. I'll take pics, I promise!
I've been lurking on the forums and everything seems to be going fantastic so far! (OK, the writing is fantastic, the killjoys are recovering...) Oh, if anyone want to take up Wilson, go for it. I don't think I can post at I'll and I'm hesitant to try with the sporadic internet.
Can't wait to get back, but for now I'm stayin' shiny!

It's not as if I was actually expecting it. I was mostly joking about that. But if you DO find a new dinosaur, don't space and name it something normal and sensible.

My dream is to find a new Genus of animal (some big, preferably, like a rhino) and name it Darth. That way I could have Darth vaderii and Darth maulii, etc. Oh, and I totally know your joking. Only one piece of dino has ever been found in Oregon EVER and they think it was a dead, floating carcass (most of Oregon was underwater during the age of the dinosuars).

Second Update:
Ok, reporting from another coffee shop. I'm pretty ready to go home, but I think I can survive till Thursday! I'll link some pics when I get home.
So, let's see...Since I was last on we drove for hours and reached our campsite in the dark. That night there was a thunder storm with all the works (lightening, torrential rain, etc.) that made me really really glad I remembered to put up my rain fly. We excavated a partial camel backbone the next day. Then there was another, very fruitless, day of driving where one car lost the other and we spent most of the day worried and trying to entertain the kids/ make sure they were not run over by traffic. Then, the next day, we prospected some sights and ended up hiking 5 or more miles. On the way to the campsite, a tire on one of our cars blew. Ten minutes after we got going again, the spare blew as well! We ended up all piling into the other cars (we were thankfully joined by two more cars that day) and getting the car towed. Dinner was eaten in the dark. Yesterday, we drove around while our fearless leader looked at potential sites. Today the undergrads were given the day off! Lattes and internet ftw!
Blasted Na Na Na Na in the truck with my fellow undergrad on the way here. Will listen to rest of album on the way back. The desert here is perfect killjoy scenery. Just as hot and dirty too.
