*The doctor steps forward* Come this way with me, please. The examination rooms are just down this hallway. Cardiomyopathy, is it? I haven't seen a case of that for years... why haven't you gotten treatment for it yet?
*I watch as they head down the hallway, then turn to the assistants when they're out of earshot* You two - I want someone watching her at all times. Not necessarily a Draculoid, but someone who can hold their own.
*They look worried* Nothing to be worried about, of course. It's for her own protection; we don't know anything about her. The last thing we want is for someone to try to come in here and harm our patients, correct?
*They nod, relieved. Protecting patients is something they can understand, and I don't want rumors spreading about Cross's previous employment.*

I dont know the medicine... my friend jimmy made it... I... *coughs more* well Ive been having trouble breathing... chest pains... sometimes it feels like my heart is fluttering.... and Ive had fainting spells...

You were shot? *He stops for a moment, then decides not to ask. He has his orders, and he's not one to ask where his patients come from* That would certainly do damage to your heart. I'm just giving you a sedative here, and then we'll take you into surgery. You should wake up in a few hours. *He fills a syringe and shoots it into her arm* There you are.

*He shakes his head at her last statement, then wheels the gurney down the hall and into the operating room*

*Some time later, he's standing next to her hospital bed, replacing her IV. The sedation's wearing off, and she's just on standard painkillers now*

It will in a minute or two, don't worry. Just stay still until the sedatives work their way out of your sys- *He breaks off when he sees me. I walk in and go over to the bed, smiling down at Airs.*
I see you're out of surgery, and the doctors tell me everything went perfectly. Are you feeling okay, considering?

Considering you just had heart surgery. *I laugh a bit* I'd like to talk to you a bit, if that's all right. *The doctor lifts up the IV cord questioningly, silently asking whether to add the sedation back in. I nod slightly*
