*I catch the orange when it bounces off my head, and pocket it, grinning* I never said it was him getting taken advantage of. But off we go! *I go back to the car, sliding into the front passenger seat since I'm the one who knows where the site was.* Head northwest for now. I'll tell you when to turn off when we're closer.

And now I really don't like what you're implying. *I take a bite of one of my apples, dump the rest of the fruit into my recently emptied backpack, and resist the urge to strangle Vico as much as I can. Unsurprisingly, I don't do very well, and start up the gruesome mental image machine again.*

He's all talk, Vol. Just ignore him. *I get in the back seat and lie down. it's comfortable knowing I can move my legs again. I look out the window at the desert.* Vico, once we get there, let me do some recon first. If there's something more than corpses waiting for us, I can soften them up for you two.

I don't know about that, *I say in response to his request to go in alone.* Contrary to popular belief, I /can/ handle myself in a fight. And you just got your legs back, so you might not want to try any high-kicks without someone around to give you a hand up afterwards. The bodies will be gone, anyway. City police claimed them for evidence and gave them back; they're long in the ground. The most eventful thing we're likely to come across is being mistaken for door-to-door salesmen. Take the next exit, Volume.
((currently assuming Vol's driving, since neither of the other two are))

((She's the one with legs that remained operational, and the one who also isn't BLI.))
*I turn off the road. I'm ridiculously glad the the subject is no longer how much of a failure as a girlfriend I am.* He can fight. I aeould have been dragged off to the Tower ages ago if I hadn't kicked him...somewhere he must not have enjoyed. I would be sorry if you didn't drag me to the floor at some point, too.

If there's one thing I know about murderous criminals, it's that they will always strike twice. We're better safe than sorry, Vico. *I rub my legs in anticipation. The feeling is back, and I feel confident. Maybe a bit too confident.* Alright, Vico, you'll come along as well, but stay behind. You're BLI, and I look mean. If the people that did it are watching the town, they'll know we're a threat. This isn't like you walking around inspecting or whatever it is you do. Once people see a Killjoy and a BLI operative walking side by side, they'll know something big is happening. It might just be my paranoia, but I'd rather someone hangs back in case this goes south. You may be BLI, but you're on a mission with me. *I look at Vico very seriously. A sudden sense of nostalgia hits me. A feeling of something historic.* I don't send my men out to die. No unnecessary risks.

*I start to protest again automatically, but something in his voice gives me pause.* All right. I'll hang back.
*I watch the road absently, running Aftermath's words through my mind, then jerk my head up when a sign flashes past* Oh - that was the turn! Take that road and the town'll be in sight as soon as we round the outcropping. The bodies were left in the main road, at the entrance.

Alrighty then! Hold onto something! *I make a sharp turn almost parallel to the turnoff. We're back on road in a few seconds.* I assume I'm the one hanging back, then, Aftermath?

*I jerk around, but hold steady this time.* Right. Keep the engine running. If I radio you in, come after us, alright? We should be alright, but just to stay safe I want you here for back up. Keep your eyes peeled. if you see anything strange, you let me know.

Right. *I don't want to hang back, but after the mission, it's almost definitely for the best.* I might be actively napping when you call in, so don't be surprised if it takes me a few seconds to reply. Don't die, yeah?

*I don't pay much attention to the pair of them; I'm watching the town as the first buildings come into view. The houses are modest but not run down; this close to the city, the living isn't too rough. The roads are pretty well-kept, and though no one can spare water for lawns or flowers, the residents haven't let the wilderness get much of a foothold. I just barely open my door, waiting for Volume to stop before pushing it wide and stepping out.* Main street, *I narrate for Aftermath, pointing out each area.* That way are the shops, the city walls are barely visible back over there, and the first responders found the victims in the middle of the third intersection straight that way. I'll follow your lead.
