Me: the bangs going to the right means she had overly strict parents
Red: Note that the sash is red, but not the heart necklace, indicating an unrealized love (no blood pumping though the heart). Alternatively, the figure could represent a form of death.
(Hence the title)
Me: The missing hands show that she feels she cannot hold onto what she cares about, while the missing feet show she feels she cannot escape her current situation - and thus, cannot stop trying to hold on.
Red: Note the lack of wings despite the tite, another sign of her feelings of being trapped. Also alludes to the possibility that the figure is a "fallen angel", a good anology for a post-apoclyptic world.
Me: Okay, and finally, the combination of the empty background and the closed eyes/smile implies that she's actively imagining - and in a sense, creating - the place she'd rather be.
