*I see Orwell point in my direction just as the team is about to load up, and shift my position so I'm ready to move. I can't decide how I want to react, though, and I watch them approach without doing anything*

Max? You had better come out with your hands up. I would hate to have to shoot you. *I approach him and stop about 15 feet from the trees and bushes. Through a bare place I see his white jacket.* I give you to the count of three or we fire. One...

*I can hear someone moving where Orwell is aiming at so I aim my gun there as well*

*I sigh. Again with the threats. He's so unoriginal. I sense movement behind me and know he's sent others around the back - they're no better at being quiet and discrete than they were when I worked with them. I push a branch aside and step forward without holstering my gun.* Orwell. Didn't expect you to run on a collection crew. I see you've been demoted already.

*I smile crookedly but the comment irritates me. I choose to ignore his snark remarks.* I appreciate you calling in the killjoys you just captured but I am afraid we must arrest you. It seems you have been very busy these last few days. A few fires and an attack on a patrolling Draculoid unit? Tsk tsk. We gave you a clean slate when you left us, but it seems you had to ruin it.

*I keep walking, patting him on the shoulder as I pass him. I move slow enough that it's clear I'm not trying to make a break for it, and I keep my gun at my side so they don't get defensive and shoot me* You still don't get it, Johnny, do you? Shame, really. You have so much potential.

*I stand still, not sure whether to move or not, but also really confused about Max's behavior. It's somewhat unexpected*

*I scowl and wipe off the spot where he patted my shoulder. I make sure everyone is still aiming at him then follow.* I am no longer your boss so I cannot give you orders. But as an enforcer of BLI I can. Max, stop now. Stop walking and stop with the comments. If you continue this behavior I will have you stunned and prescribe a dosage so high you will be drooling on the floor of a nice white padded cell.

*My step falters when I hear the orders, and as hard as I try, I can't make myself walk more than another few paces. My suit feels suddenly tight, and I roll my shoulders before turning to face him* You're a fool, Orwell.

A fool?! Me? Please Max. I am the one with a secure job and a warm bed. Food and clean clothes. Stability. You? You are the fool. You quit what was good and left for this. *I gesture to the surrounding desert with a look of disgust on my face.* And where is the girl? Did you kill her off too? You have no control of yourself or care for others well being.

No. *I walk forward until I'm face to face with him, and my voice is deadly serious* You. Are. A fool. You don't know what you're doing here. You're not prepared for California, Orwell. You don't belong. You threaten me with things that mean nothing to me - I haven't taken pills for years. You think you can lead these people- *I gesture to the team* You know nothing. You are a child who's playing in a sandbox much too big for him. Go home before you get hurt.

*now I'm starting to get nervous as I watch Orwell and Max. I feel really on edge, as if someone just set a bomb and there's no telling when it will go off*

*I stare at him, mouth open partially in shock. He is right. I have no clue what I am doing. I quickly recompose.* I guarantee you Max that I will clean up the zones. Better than you or any of your superiors have done. Perhaps I should start with you? *I shrug and step back, allowing a clear shot at him. I give the okay to my team to shoot. I myself raise my gun directly at his chest.* Do not worry Max. When you wake up everything will be Better. *I shoot him.*

*Orwell's signal to the team is a poor choice, because it lets me anticipate his actions. Still, I don't have enough time to block his shot. Instead, I instantly relax my entire body, letting the jolt of electricity pass through me. The percentage that isn't slowed by the protective vest under my jacket makes me jerk queerly and sends sparks across my vision, but it doesn't knock me out. Before he has a chance to register what happened, I grab his wrist and twist, making him drop his gun. I kick it out of reach and put my own gun against his temple, pulling his arm up behind his back to hold him still. I stare at the team, who are all hesitant to shoot with Orwell partially blocking their aim* Lower your weapons, or I shoot. And my gun isn't on stun.
