*I look at the weapons rack and take a couple grenades as well, before following Max. I almost run into another Crow, but he just shoves me aside. I try to ignore that and reach Max right before the elevator closes*

*We step out into the parking garage again, and I lead the way towards an orderly group of draculoids and Scarecrow agents* While you were with the nurse, I learned more about the project underway. Groups of patrols are being sent out immediately after the quarantine starts, escorting deliveries into the Zones. *I nod towards a pile of large wooden crates* I pulled some strings and got us assigned to the first group.

*I nod and stay behind Max, not really sure how to interact with the other crows. The crates are just marked blue with the word "beetle" and the familiar logo. I wonder if they're anything like the fly cams. I'm glad I got to sleep in the car, because it looks like no one is going to sleep for a while*

*A signal comes through all our radios at once, and everyone gets into a car. Two draculoids share a car with us; one moves towards the front passenger seat, and I hold out an arm to block him. He starts to say something, then realizes who I am, and gets in the backseat. I get behind the wheel, wait for Red to get in, and then join the line of cars moving out into the city*

*I try to hide a smile as I get in. I can hear the dracs muttering to each other in the backseat. I wonder if our silence makes them uncomfortable, but then decide I don't really care. The city is quiet this time around. No children, families, or even businessmen can be seen and all the shops are closed. We are right behind one of the transport vehicles*

*We pass through the tunnel without stopping to check I.D. The higher-ups want this done as fast as possible, apparently. We get on the highway and turn north. Just as the city fades from view, I see the second group leaving the tunnel and heading east*

*I check my guns. One is in a new holster I grabbed and the other is in my pocket, both fully charged. I want to ask Max what is going on, but now doesn't seem the right time*

*The patrol continues straight on without stopping. After several hours we cross into Zone 6 and head for a wide hill with a flat top. The cars circle up, leaving a large open space in the middle, and the crates are unloaded. I get out and stand by the car, facing out over the surrounding area. The agents and draculoids are talking among themselves, keeping their voices low. One group of agents stands with their backs to the crates, and the rest of us are by the cars* I suppose you're wondering why we're here.

*I look up at Max and nod, resisting the urge to scratch my shoulder. We're standing by the car we came in, looking out at the desert wasteland. It's hot as hell, but in the excitement I barely notice*
((Ahhh! I have to go now. Be gone about an hour or a little more. Don't start the fight without me!!!))

Those crates *I gesture over my shoulder* contain miniature explosives, in the shape of beetles. When detonated, they release a very toxic gas, similar to a pesticide. We're at one of four detonation sites in the Zones. We have to wait to set them off until all of them are in position, but if word has gotten out to the killjoys about this project, we'll be having trouble before too long. So our job is to keep the crates safe until detonation time, and then get the hell out of here.
(sure thing!)

*I try to mime putting on a gas mask, wondering if we have any in the cars. I can see now why we chose the top of the hill. It's a great vantage point for any attack. I wonder if we'll see the killjoys we encountered in the bar again. There must be an awful lot of them to require all these crates*

Yeah, sure. *I dig around in the trunk and come up with a pair of gas masks. I toss one to her and put the other on the dashboard*

*I catch the mask. It's heavy, so I put it on the ground, opting to examine my weapons instead. I check to make sure my guns have kept their power and then turn my attention to the grenades. They have a 10 second delay, just like the ones I trained with, excellent. I toss one up in the air to see how it feels, causing a couple dracs near us to jump. As time wears on I idlly wonder what a killjoy is really like and decide to ask Max later*

*I lean on the car, letting my mind wander until I realize I'm trying to remember what my childhood house looked like. I abruptly reach into the glove compartment, pull out a notebook and a pen, and hand them to Red* Here. We might have a couple hours.

*Suddenly, all the radios come to life. I look down at my curiously*
rb: All units in the BC and 6 Zs, be on high alert. The Killjoys know our plan. I repeat, the Killjoys know our plan. [from Like a Needle in a Haystack].
*I look around, but no one seems to react much, like it was expected all along*
*I turn back to the pen and paper in my hands, and it only slowly registers that Max wants to talk. I think for a second as I stare out into the desert. I don't want to offend him with anything too personal, but there are so many questions I want to ask, so much no one has told me. I decide to just scratch the surface, so I write: "Where do killjoys come from? Are they all evil?" and show it to Max*
