*I read the card, then hand it back without saying anything. The man in back is staying quiet, likely passed out. For once, I'm hoping for an uneventful drive back.*

*I slowly put my cards back, still feeling great about Max's compliment. I stare out the window as we pass towns and the occasional gas station. I find I don't mind Max's silence. In fact, it is kind of freeing after the constant training and televisions of the tower. My eyes get heavier as I listen to the low hum of the car and soon I fall asleep*

*Eventually I see the lights of the city up ahead. The sun set about half an hour ago. I show my I.D. to the guard at the booth, and get passed through after he checks that the killjoy in back is secured. I park the car in the underground storage, then open my door* Time to go, Red.

I wake up and we're already under the tower, all concrete and halogen lights. I look at my watch and realize I've been asleep for hours. I automatically open my door and try to get up quickly, resulting in my shoulder exploding in firecrackers of pain. I see stars, but I manage to get out of the car and my vision clears. BLI techs and security are already approaching to take the killjoy and deal with the mess we've made earlier. I watch Max supervise the process and try not to get in the way.

*The killjoy is escorted into the elevator by several armed guards, likely to be taken to the underground cells until he's questioned. I wait for another elevator, then get in* Now we go back up and check in.

*I nod, but watch the killjoy as he's dissappears with the guards in the elevator. He doesn't fight anymore. I wonder if we'll see him again. Our elevator is cool, clean, and familiar, making me already miss driving through the zones. Maybe it was the loss of blood, but I start to see the appeal of a Crow's life*
[Should we switch back to 'appetite for success' or 'underground storage' or stay here?]

*We step out on an upper floor and go to the room full of sign-in computer banks. I check in and fill out an activities report while Red does the same.*
(I think we can stay here - Bunny's not BLI anymore and the fight is starting soon so we'll move for that tomorrow)

*I'm still tired, so I have to concentrate as I fill out the report. I'm not sure what to put in, so I find myself still typing when Max is finished. Everyone's running around, some with envelopes. I wouldn't know, but BLI seems more alive than it has in a while*

*As I slip the form into the return slot, I notice a flashing notification appear at the top of each computer screen. I go to a terminal, log back in, and quickly read the message:* NOTICE: ALL EMPLOYEES TO REMAIN WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS FROM THIS POINT FORWARD. A QUARANTINE WILL BE ENFORCED BEGINNING TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT, CORRESPONDING WITH THE BEGINNING OF A HIGHLY VOLATILE ZONE CLEANSING PROJECT. MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW. THIS ORDER IS MANDATORY. REPEAT, THIS ORDER IS MANDATORY.

*The terminal I'm at begins to flash and then the message appears. I hastily fill out my form and turn it in, then go to Max to see what to do. As I move I can feel the knife wound in my shoulder start to bleed again, but it doesn't hurt as much. My altered body has already started to heal. In a couple days I'll just have a scar*

Come on. *I log off and head for the door* We need to get your shoulder looked at before we do anything else, and I want to be able to leave for the Zones again as soon as we're cleared. It's going to get very interesting very fast.

*Max and I head for one of the many infirmaries, where the docs peel back the blood-soaked layers of gauze, jab me with a few needles, and seal up the wound with a combination of stitiches and glue. Max leaves while I'm with the docs and I wonder where he is going, what the quarantine is all about, and why Max thinks we need to go back out to the zones. A nurse tries to start me on an IV, but I brush her off as Max returns*

Finished? *The nurse nods* Okay, let's go. We need to get fresh batteries - *I see the bloodstains on Red's jacket* - and clothing.

*We change and I feel ten times better. The drugs probably help too. I transfer my cards and the killjoy mask to my new coat. I grab a crow mask, but don't put it on. More crows than I have ever seen before are strutting around or assembling equipment. I almost loose Max in the crowd.

*I check out an extra gun for each of us, along with a pair of knives. It's too loud to talk, so I motion for Red to follow me to the elevator*
