(Ok, a bit of back story first, in case anyone is going to read/participate in this. Muze and I were by ourselves for a while before we met up with Arson again, and two new Killjoys: Gear and Angel. Arson had a map of BLI truck routes, and we were going to hijack one of the food trucks, but I had to leave before we got the chance. This thread explains why and continues on the adventures of Ghost and Muze and whoever we meet along the way. Note: This thread will also introduce 3 new characters called The Clowns. So I don't confuse people, or myself, here's their names and what colour represents them: Neon Nightmare = Lime green Mercury Blast = Navy Solar Flare = Teal)
*Arson and I are outside, looking at all the weapons I had collected, and figuring out what would be needed for our hijack mission, when I recieve the transmission I'd been waiting for.*
Ghost. Come in Ghost.
*I unhook my radio from my belt* Ghost here. Who are you?
We're The Clowns.
*An ecstatic grin breaks across my face.* Really? The Clowns? I was starting to think you were just some sort of Zone myth!
Oh no, we're very real. We're just also very selective, but your stunt in Battery City proves you're serious about learning the fine arts we can teach you. You're a good Killjoy; we can make you a great one.
When can I meet you?
As soon as you can get in that car of yours and start driving. It'll take you at least a week to reach us. Leave now and make sure no one follows you.
*I look at Arson. She's watching me curiously.*
I...I can't leave now. I'm helping a friend.
Then we can't help you. If you're not willing to leave now then you've lost your chance. Make your choice.
*I close my eyes and take a deep breath. It has taken me months to get a response from The Clowns and I can't just let the chance slip through my fingers. Opening my eyes again I make my decision.*
Arson, I have to go. I'm sorry.
*She looks sad, but nods. I hug her goodbye before getting in the car and motioning to Muze to do the same.*
Goodbye Arson. Stay shiny.
*With that I take off, leaving the safehouse and my friends behind. I speak into the radio again.* I'm on my way. Where do I go?
Good choice. It won't be hard for you to get here. Ghost, you're coming home.
Coming home? Zone 32? I can't go back there!
Yes you can, and you know you will. We'll see you soon.
*The connection went dead.* Hello? Hello? F**k! At least I know where I'm going...
(Time jump) About a week later
*I stand on the edge of a beach, tears blurring my vision. I'm back on the island where I was born, only an hour away from the place I used to call home. Memories flood my mind and I sink to the ground, overwhelmed. Muze sits down next to me, wrapping her little arms around me as I cry. I don't know how long we stay like that, but my tears are fading into hiccups when Muze stiffens and reaches for her gun. I'm immediately on high alert and we're both on our feet before the thought ever really computes.
Coming towards us are three figures, dressed in civilian garb but carrying themselves like Killjoys: tall and proud but ever on edge. They come to a stop in front of us and I recognize them as The Clowns, legendary Killjoys, almost of the same caliber as the Fab Four. These three though, they didn't fight openly against BLI, they simply took on other Killjoys they deemed worthy enough and taught them everything from stealth attacks, poison, and knife fighting, to full on guns and bombs, and everything in between. Some people say that the Fab Four learned from them but I don't believe it.*
Ghost. Welcome home. I am Neon Nightmare, and these two are Mercury Blast and Solar Flare.
*They were all female. The one who had spoken was tall and lanky, almost boyish in appearance, with blonde hair dyed hot pink and electric blue. The other two were almost identical, from their short, spikey purple hair to their matching clothes. Mercury's eyes were mismatched though: one black, the other the same clear blue as her twin's.*
Why did you bring me here?
Because we needed to know you're still human enough to feel the pain of memories. Yes, you have to be merciless where BLI is concered, but if you lose your humanity you're no better than them. You always tell people to never forget who they are. Well, it's good advice, and we say "never forget what you're fighting for either." Because what are we fighting for? Our freedom, right? Our right to be human beings with emotions, no matter how messy they sometimes make things.
We teach Killjoys like you how to be an enemy that will haunt BLI's dreams, but we have three rules that we expect you'll live by. 1 - Never forget who you are or what you're fighting for; 2 - Never hesitate and never leave them alive; and 3 - always regret the lives you have to take.
I already live by those rules. My sister fell to BLI and I saw what happened to her. I don't want to end up like that.
*They nodd.*
Follow us. We need to get you to the base so you can get settled in. Solar will take your car.
*I follow them across the beach to an indescript van. Neon gets behind the wheel while Muze and I crawl into the back and Mercury takes the passenger seat. The back windows are blacked out, but I can see vague flashes of scenery flashing past through the front windows. It seems like forever before the van slows to a stop, and I don't recognize anything when we get out.*
Welcome to our humble home.
*We're standing on top of a rise, taller hills offering protection and secrecey. My eyes widen when I take in what Mercury is gesturing. Spread out below us, lights warm and welcoming, is what looks like some sort of abandoned army camp.*
How the hell did you find this place?
Secrets of the trade.
*She grins cheekily and I roll my eyes.*
C'mon, I'll show you where you'll be sleeping and then we can eat. You're hungry, yeah?
Starving! We haven't had anything but Power Pup since we started our trek.
Well you'll be happy to know that we have more than that here. Not much more, but it's somewhat of a variety.
*Muze and I follow her down the hill to one of the barracks. She gestures us inside and points out a couple beds and tells us they're ours for as long as we're there. We ditch our stuff, what little we'd brought, and follow her to what I can't help but call the Mess Tent. Too many years of watching M*A*S*H I guess. After a week straight with nothing but dog chow the food they have, which, as Mercury had warned, isn't amazing by any standards, tastes like a 5-star meal. Satisfied, we make our way back to the barrack and settle in for the night. My dreams are choppy and full of dark things around unknown corners, and when I wake in the morning I feel like I haven't slept at all.*

(Note: For those of you who don't know, Ghost said her goodbyes to the Zones a while back, but since I apparently can't stay away I'm pretending like this continued right from when I left, which was May 6th. So yeah, there's a bit of a time lag, for now. I'll catch up soon though, promise. So right now it's around May 15th. Make sense? I hope so...)
*I wake up to total silence. Listening closely I can't even hear Muze breathing. Slowly I reach for my gun and sit up.*
Muze?
*I roll off my cot into a crouch on the floor by the bed Muze had fallen asleep on. On high alert I keep my finger on the trigger, filled with dread when I see that her cot is empty.*
Son of a draculoid!
*I spring into action, making a silent rush to the door and outside. I don't know what time it is, but judging by the light it's very early morning. I strain my eyes, trying to see through the dusk, every nerve on edge. Hesitantly I approach the nearest building, then pause. Changing direction I head to the middle of the compound, breathing a sigh of relief when I see that all the vehicles are still there. Crouching low I move swiftly over to each one in turn, checking to see that no one is inside. When I get to the van that brought Muze and I here I pull open the back door and look inside. Muze is there, tied up and gagged, and just as I'm about to climb in and help her I feel the cold press of a knife against my neck.*
Step away from the van and turn around.
*The knife leaves my throat and I follow the order, turning slowly. I didn't expect what I saw. Standing there in a row, looking pleased as punch, were The Clowns.*
What the hell?
It was a test, and you almost passed. C'mon back inside and we'll explain.
*While she's speaking the other two untie Muze, who bounces up to me, grinning.*
Man you're a heavy sleeper! You didn't even stir at all when they came in to get me!
*I shake my head.* What exactly was the point of that?
It'll all be explained momentarily
*With an irritated huff I follow them into the mess tent. As we eat they explain why they'd "taken" Muze.*
As Mercury said, it was a test. We came and got Muze a couple hours after the two of you had gone to bed, and we explained what we were doing. We needed to know your tactics for rescue missions, how you manuver, how you stay safe, how you react when you realize that someone you care about it missing and you're left behind. BLI would have taken you both, as I'm sure you know. And you did a very good job up until we caught you. You jumped on the issue right away, you didn't let panic overwhelm you or cloud your judgement. Instead of searching through every building you went to check that all the vehicles were there, to make sure we hadn't double crossed you. That was excellent. Most people would have searched the buildings first. What you need to remember though, is just because you found who you came to rescue doesn't mean you're home free. Always keep alert, look around, double check there's no one else, etc. Obviously this setup won't work again, but there will be other tests. So always be prepared. Plus even though we're relatively safe in this location, BLI still has helicopters that scan the island, looking for trouble, so be aware of that. If you hear one approaching get inside, away from windows, as quickly as possible. Got it?
*I nod, taking it all in.* So training and tests, yeah?
Pretty much. And because you've been in the Zones for a while now, you've already developed a lot of skills. We're just here to help you hone them, and to teach you whatever you don't know.
We've heard that you have an affinity for fire and knives. Work with that, because your strengths will always serve you best, and you don't need to be fancy to get the job done.
So keep your boots tight, keep your weapons close, and get ready to become a Killjoy to be reckoned with!
*Over the next few weeks I was trained and tested. Weapons and tactics became what I ate, slept, and breathed. Slowly but surely I felt myself becoming stronger, faster, and smarter. It soon got to the point where I could out play The Clowns and beat them in their tests. Then, on the 3rd of June, everything changed, reminding me that there was a world outside the zone 32 compound. A world that needed my help.*

(To Bunny: If you read this, I hope you don't mind that I used your transmission. If you don't want me to I can take it out, just let me know ) -June 3rd- *I'm practicing hitting targets with my throwing knives when I hear a transmission that sends fear and anger straight through my heart.* ATTENTION ALL KILLJOYS! ATTENTION ALL KILLJOYS! MY NAME IS BUNNY KILLIGHTLY. I DONT HAVE MUCH TIME. SO I'LL KEEP THIS SHORT. I AM BEING HELD CAPTIVE IN THE BLI/BATTERY CITY TOWER. I AM SAFE FOR NOW BUT THIS MESSAGE IS VITAL! IF THERE IS A KID OUT THERE CALLED 'ANGELIC EXPLOSION' RUN! THEY ARE COMING FOR YOU. THEY KNOW WHERE YOU ARE!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SYSTEMERROR!TRANSMISSIONINTERCEPTED!SE CURITYBREACH!SYSTEMERROR!TRANSMISSIONINTERCEPTED!SECURITYBREACH!SYSTEMERROR!TRANSMISSIONINTERCEPTED!SECURITYBREACH! > > > > > > > > > WE WILL FIND YOU ANGELIC EXPLOSION > > > > > > > > KEEP RUNNING! *Without a second thought I grab everything and run, headed to where I know my car is parked. I hear Muze following me, and then the footsteps of The Clowns.* Where are you going?*I stop and turn to face them, one hand on my gun, the other on the handle of the driver's side door.* My friends are in trouble. One has been taken by BLI, again, and the other has the 'Crow after her. If you think I'm just gonna stay here and do nothing you're wrong. If I have to kill you I will. They're my family and I'm not going to abandon them when they need me most. We heard the transmission too, and we knew you'd want to leave. But you're not leaving without us.To defeat the best you need to fight with the best. I'm not saying we can bring down BLI...I don't think that will ever happen, but if you want to keep Angel safe and have even a hope of rescuing Bunny you're going to need us.*The other two nod in agreement.* Ok, but we go at my speed. I know where I'm going better than you, so I'll follow until we're off the island, but then I'm in charge. Got it? *Mercury laughs.* Bossy, bossy. I like it. *She winks and I manage a weak smile before they head to their van. Muze and I get into my car and we follow The Clowns out of the compound, down winding roads to the same beach we first met them at. Three hours later we were on the mainland, ready to head back to the zones.* (Note: I'm not going to go any further with this until I can figure out what's been going on with Bunny, Arson, Angel, and Gear, because I'm pretty sure a lot has been happening and I don't want to mess anything up. So it might be a few days before I get it all straightened out )

(Yeahhh...I've been gone for a while again. Work has been kicking my ass and other...things have been going on. But I got an idea for this thread and I should have it all completed in time for the mysterious August 1st. If anyone wants to join in, feel free. I've completely lost track of Children With Knives again so I'm just going off on my own tangent here, but fear not, Ghost will rejoin ya'll soon enough, with a few tricks up her sleeves!)
*We reached the Zones within a day and a half of travelling. Seeing the desert stretching out before me brought mixed feelings, but knowing that I had three new Killjoys at my side made me feel like I could face anything. Muze and I spent the entire journey prepping The Clowns on what to expect. Yes, they could fight, they could defend themselves, they could survive, but they had never been this close to Battery City. The island is where they'd lived, the mainland being the furthest they'd been away from home since before BLI took over. They were used to dealing with Dracs on a small scale, nothing like the daily patrols and exterminators that roamed the nuclear wasteland that had once been California.
The first few days went well. I tried to keep in contact with Arson and her group, but communications were cut for reasons I didn't want to dwell on. We were slowly making our way to Battery City, and I'd face what was there when the time came. If I had to rescue them, so be it. If it was just a glitch in the transmissions, even better. Still, survivng in the zones had taught me to always expect the worst, as awful as that sounds.
We were about 3 days into the zones, keeping an eye out at all times for other living beings, friendly or not. It seemed the desert was deserted though, for we saw no one. Then the transmission came, the one that I'd been hoping for and dreading since I'd escaped Battery City all those months ago in a botched attempt to rescue my sister.*
H-hello? Can anyone hear me? Is anyone there? Please! I need help! I don't know where I am! I don't know how I got here! I-I don't remember anything! Please...help me...
*It kept repeating over and over, the plea for help in a voice I knew better than anyone elses. It was Nix and she was in trouble. The first time I heard it I thought it was a hoax, a cruel trick that someone from BLI - possibly Ella - was playing on me. But when I heard again, and then a third time, I knew it wasn't a trick. Somehow Nix had escaped, or been captured and abandoned by mercenaries, and now she was scared and alone, with no idea where or who she was.*
Please! If anyone can hear me...help! All I see is sand. I don't know where I am. Please, somebody respond!
*I grab my radio.* Who is this? *I know who it is but I want to hear it from her.*
I-I don't know. I'm not sure anymore. It all used to be so clear, and now I don't know what's going on? What happened to the City? Why am I not there anymore?
Trust me, you're better off where you are. Now tell me, what do you see?
*She describes her surroundings, typical of the desert, but when I ask her to really look around she says she sees something in the near distance. I tell her to get closer, carefully, and when she does, when she can make out the defining features I know exactly where she is: One of Bunny's safeouses, in zone 1, guarded by an old skeleton in an old uniform.*
Hold tight, we're coming for you.
Hurry, please. I don't know how to live out here.
*Her words chill me but I know it'll take at least another day to get there. And then there's the matter of convincing Muze and The Clowns.*
Ok, here's what you need to do. Go to the house, but be careful. I haven't been there in a while and I don't know what shape it's in. Stay as hidden as you can. If you're wearing any distinguishing colours or markers get rid of them. Inside the house there should be food. Eat what you want, that's why it's there. There should also be weapons. If you know how to use a gun, great. If not, a big stick works too. Just do what you need to do to protect yourself. I'll be there as soon as I can, hopefully only a day. Keep an eye out for a car with rainbow stripes on the hood, followed by a tricked out hippy van. That'll be me and my friends. Got it?
*Her reply is affirmative. Now I have the task of convincing Muze and The Clowns, and by the looks on their faces they aren't very happy with the turn of events.*
No way. We're not doing this. For all you know it could be a trap! Last time you saw her she was so brainwashed that she barely remembered you! If it's not a trap what state do you think she'll be in now?
Muze, she's my sister. My little sister. There was a time when I would have died for her without a second thought, and even now, if there's the chance that she's in trouble, I have to try and help her.
I agree with Muze. It's idiocy. Possibly suicide. Do you really want to risk getting captured and killed, or worse, turned into a BLI zombie forced to kill your friends and family?
She's right. Is it really worth it? Are what about Arson and Angel and Gear? If it's a trap and you're killed or captured then how are you going to help them?
We haven't heard from them in days. For all we know they've been killed or worse. I have to do this, with or without you guys.
I think you're crazy, but I admire your determination. I'm not happy about this, I think we need to concentrate on trying to find out what happened to Arson and that lot. That was our original mission after all. But if you're hell bent on playing hero I'm not going to let you walk into it alone.
You know how I feel about this, but I'm not letting you leave me behind again. If this is what you want to do then I'm with you to the end.
*I wrap my arms around her.* Thank you Muze. I know you're not happy about this, but I need to see. I need to know if she's really back...or if there's a chance I can get her back.
*Neon and Solar nod.* I still think you're stupid to do this, but I know where you're coming from. If I was in your place and it was Mercury lost and alone out there I'd do whatever it took to help her, even if it might mean my death or enslavement.
Thank you Solar. Thank you all of you. I couldn't do this without you.
Ok, if we're really going to do this we'll need a plan. A good one. Anything can go wrong and we need to be prepared for the worst.
*We spend the rest of the day planning, and when the sun finally sinks below the horizon we take turns keeping guard. When the burning orb rises in the morning we set out, headed for zone 1 and the safehouse, only 3 miles away from Battery City.*
(Note: I have no idea if this safehouse has been raided recently. I'm hoping not, but if it has I guess we'll find out.)

*The journey to Bunny's old safehouse goes by quickly, and the sun is burning high when we arrive. We're on edge as we approach, weapons at the ready, guns set to stun, but there's no need. It's deserted except for the lone figure that stumbles out to meet us.
I barely recognize her. Nix...or whoever she was now. My sister. Last time I saw her she had dead eyes, glazed from the drugs BLI fed her, clean, uniform clothing complete with a name badge and serial number, and she'd been so sure of herself, so sure she, and the corporation she served were right. Now though, now all that is the same is the dead eyes. There is fear and pain in them though, and they are almost hidden behind dirty, matted hair. Her clothes are torn and stained, her skin is dry and sunburned, her lips cracked, and she is shivering, her arms wrapped around herself as though she is cold even under the scorching sun. It's the withdrawl, I knew, and my heart breaks to see her in such a state. In a selfish way though, I'm glad she is out of Battery City, away from BLI. In her hand she clutches a gun, shakily pointed at us. She drops it when she sees the vehicles though.*
Are you...are you here to help me? Please, I don't know what's going on.
*My heart breaks even more, but I stand strong.*
Yes, we're here to help you. You're coming with us and we'll keep you safe, ok?
Where are you taking me? Are we going that way? *She points to her right, where the city is visible on the horizon.*
No, we're going the opposite direction. The city is bad. You don't belong there.
But that's where I'm from. I remember. I have a family there, a job. They must be missing me. I need to go back there. I was happy there.
No, you weren't happy, you were drugged. And your family? They aren't your real family. They probably don't even notice that you're gone. Do you remember how you got here?
*She frowns in confusion.* I remember...I remember someone telling me to get out while I could. And I listened to her...I don't know why. She was a bad person. And I remember an explosion. After that I don't know what happened. I woke up here, in the desert. I still don't know much. It's all in pieces. I have flashes of things from a long time ago, somewhere else but I don't even know if they're really my memories.
Trust me, they're your memories. It's your real life coming back to you. The drugs are leaving your system, and it's going to be a long process but eventually it'll get better. I promise.
Who are you? How do you know so much? I feel like I know you from somewhere else...
She's your -
Muze, no. One thing at a time. *I turn back to Nix* I know so much because I've been here a long time. I'll explain everything in due time, but until then you'll just have to trust me.
What do you mean you'll explain everything? Who are you?
*I close my eyes and breath deep, trying to hold back the tears. Muze takes my hand, squeezing comfortingly, and The Clowns move closer, offering their support.*
Do you remember your name?
I...no. I think it started with an "A". Something like Alice...maybe? I don't know.
It's ok, you'll remember. And if you don't I'll help you.
*She nods, obviously deciding to trust me.*
So where are you taking me?
That way. *I point back towards Zone 6.* There's a place we can stay where we'll be safer, farther away from Battery City.
...Battery City? I remember now. It's not a good place, is it?
No, no it's not a good place at all. That's why we're going away from it, at least until you're better. I don't think we have long though. I feel like something is going to happen soon.
*Muze and The Clowns nod in agreement, and Neon looks towards the city. A cloud of dust is approaching, and fast.*
We need to get out of here. Now.
*We turn to head back to the vehicles, and I motion at Nix to follow us.*
You'll be riding with me and Muze. The Clowns will be in the van behind us. Come on, we don't have time to waste.
Why the urgency? *She follows though, climbing into the back seat and holding on as I take off. Muze turns around in the front seat, levelling a glare at her.*
See that cloud of dust? *Nix looks out the back window and nods.* That's a patrol of Draculoids, and if they catch up we're screwed. And all because we had to come rescue your sorry ass.
Muze! Don't talk to her like that! She doesn't know.
Sure she doesn't? This "I don't remember" schtick is all bs. She knows exactly who she is, who they are, and why she's here. They sent her out as bait, Ghost, and you know it as well as any of us. But because she's your sis-
That's enough! You of all people should know that BLI lackey's aren't smart enough, or good enough actors to pull off something like this. I understand if you're worried about her replacing you, but trust me, no one will ever replace you. You've been my rock, and I promised you a long time ago that I'd never abandon you. I'm not about to break that promise, ok?
*She nods, and I can see that my words have cut her deep.* I'm sorry, Ghosty.
No apologies. Remember? No excuses, no apologies, no regrets. You and the other Killjoys are the closest thing I have to family, and nothing will ever change that.
Killjoys?
Renegades, outlaws, misfits, shit disturbers. Basically we try to make life a living hell for the asshats in Battery City while we fight for our freedom. And I'm sorry about what I said.
Oh...ok. And it's fine, I forgive you. I guess it's hard to trust people out here.
You have no idea
*We manage to outrun the Drac patrol, and Nix falls asleep after a while. By the time the sky has darkened we've made it out of Zone 1 and well into Zone 2. Again we take turns keeping watch, letting Nix sleep, and when the sun rises we continue on, heading for Lucky Strikes in Zone 6. Nix is mostly silent, shivering and shaking as the drugs leave her system, but I know that as soon as she's able she'll be asking questions, so I spend most of the journey trying to think of how to explain everything to her, and make her understand how much she still means to me, even after all that has happened.*
(Note: Next post will be a lot of Ghost explaining things to Nix, telling her who she is, etc., and then the KJ training will begin, if Nix decides to stick around. Which she probably will. I think she's gonna be on our side for the epicness on August 1st.)

*It takes us three days to get to Lucky Strikes, and within that time Nix is almost as good as new, the withdrawl over. The bowling alley looks just the same as the last time I saw it, no evidence of a raid, so we park outside and head in. The door squeaks, announcing our arrival, and I hold my hand up, bringing everyone to a halt.*
Hello? If there's anyone in here we come in peace. We're killjoys. Ghost, Muze, Neon, Mercury, and Solar.
*There's no answer, no evidence of life, so we venture further in, heading to the bar. While Muze, The Clowns, and Nix take seats I head behind, remembering where the food was kept.*
Ok, so last time I was here, which was admittedly quite a while ago, there was a good stash of food. I'm hoping some of it's still here and still edible. If not it'll be PowerPup again.
Oh god, please let there be food!
*I laugh at Neon and disappear through a door behind the bar. I return a few moments later, my arms laden with bread, peanut butter, and jam.*
Looks like it's been stocked recently. I guess there's a caretaker around here somewhere but they seem to be out at the moment.
What is this place?
Only the funnest safehouse in all the zones! Who wants to get their ass kicked in a bowling game after we eat?
Oh, you're on!
But you're going down, kid!
Good luck with that. I've yet to see a Killjoy who can even get close to beating Muze.
I think she'll have her work cut out for her, playing against the twins. They're the best I've ever seen.
Alright, it's on!
*Laughter and the sounds of eating fill the alley, and soon the sounds of falling pins and whoops of joy take over. I watch Muze and the twins for a while, smiling at the sight of them having fun, and then I turn to Nix.*
Come with me.
*I head into the back rooms, letting Neon know where I'll be, and Nix follows.*
I hope you've been thinking about what you want to know, because now is the time I'm going to answer all of your questions.
*I sit down on one of the beds, and she joins me.*
So, ask away...
(Work gets in the way, but I'ma try to update this soon. Beware, there will be lots of questions, and it will get emotional.)

*Nix is silent for a moment, and then come the questions.*
Who are you? How do you know so much about me when I don't even remember who I am?
*I take a deep breath, and prepare to answer her as best I can.*
First, I need you to agree that you'll just listen until I'm done talking. Can you do that?
*She nods.*
Ok, here goes nothing. You're my little sister. About two years ago, give or take, we lived on what used to be called Vancouver Island, now Zone 32. Long story short, our dad was killed in the Helium Wars, our mom was devestated and an easy target for BLI's promises of the perfect life. When the set up an outpost, using our parliment buildings as base, she ended up working for them. It made sense because she had worked for our government before BLI took over. Anyways, she met this guy who had been sent from Battery City to oversee the Zone 32 outpost for the first few months, and he convinced her to take the pills, to become a slave. He moved in with us, and tried to get us as well, but we refused to take the pills. You and I, we wanted to leave, go to THE zones, and become Killjoys. We even came up with names, and you made us costumes. You were Phoenix Scorpio, and I was Neon Ghost. We called each other Nix and Neon though. My best friend was also a part of this, but she ended up betraying us, and now she's an Exterminator in charge of her own Draculoid squad...if she's even still alive. But that's another story. On the day we were supposed to leave they took you. I think they meant to get both of us but I was out at the time, and when I came back you were gone. It became my mission to get you back, to rescue you, and in the process I blew up the outpost and became Diamond Butterfly. Most people call me Ghost though, and that's the way I like it. Last time I saw you was when you were still in Battery City. I'd finally made it, and I was determined that I was going to get you out. When I found you though, I realized that would be impossible. You were too far gone, brainwashed, working for the corporation we'd swore to help bring down. So instead I gave you a second chance. After setting explosives all around the room you worked in, enough to take out the whole wing of the building, I told you that you could either stay and die, or run. Then I walked out. Because of you I had to kill the girl who used to be my best friend. Because of you I almost died. It was worth it though, when I pushed the detonator. I didn't know if you'd left, or you'd stayed to let the explosion kill you, and at that point I didn't care. Until I heard your transmission I didn't know either way. But when I heard it, all the memories came back again, and I knew I had to save you. So that's why I came. Because no matter what you did I love you. You're my little sister and nothing will ever change that.
*I stop talking and wait for her response. In her eyes is nothing but shock and disbelief, and I can feel my heart sink.*

(Fuuuuuuuuuck! I typed out a majority of the next part of this last night, and then I turned off my computer before saving it. *epic!fail* *facepalm* *headdesk* !@#$%^&* Now I have to do it all over again *cries*)
I don't believe you.
*Her words cut me, but I know they aren't the truth. She just doesn't want to believe it.* Are you sure about that? I think if you reall try hard you'll remember.
*Silence fills the room as she looks down at her knees, and when she looks back up at me I can tell that she remembers everything...well, the important parts at least.*
Well?
I...I remember. You did all that to save me? You risked your life and I was so horrible to you. But instead of letting me die in the explosion, with no warning, you gave me the choice of leaving. And I did. I remember following you, seeing you take down all those Dracs. I left though...started running before you'd cut them all down. I guess a part of me was still human enough not to want to see you killed. After that, all I remember was an explosion behind me, and waking up in the desert.
I'm glad you left. And I'm glad I came for you.
So am I. But I don't think I'm ready for this. All your Killjoy friends, they know I was BLI. Why would they trust me?
Part of being a Killjoy means trusting no one. Not even friends or family. You never know when someone is going to be captured and switch sides. I learned that the hard way. But if you prove yourself you'll earn their respect. Over the next couple days we'll all teach you the basics. But first you need to clean up. If you're going to be a Killjoy it won't do to have you running around the zones in BLI garb. Go through there *I pointed to a door* and you'll find a sink with running water. Wash up but try not to drink any of it. Last I heard it was contaminated by BLI, though the Killjoys may have remedied that. Best to be cautious though. When you're done there'll be clothes waiting on the bed for you, and food in the kitchen.
*She nods, and I exit as she makes her way into the bathroom. I head into one of the other back rooms, and locate a chest full of extra clothing. With some difficulty I drag it back to the room we were in, and leave it by the door. She can choose what she wants. That accomplished I head back to the front room and enlist Neon to help me prepared food while Muze and the twins continue their bowling match. The food is almost ready when Nix reappears, and we all turn to stare at her.
The haunted, empty look in her eyes is gone, and she's clean, dressed in clothes more suitable for a Killjoy, her hair hanging in wet strands, curling slightly as it dries. She looks again like the Nix I used to know, and it makes my heart ache and swell with pride and happiness.*
Daaammmn, you clean up nice for a BLI brat!
*We all laugh, and Muze comes forward, grabs something from behind the bar, and approaches Nix.* Missing something though. You can't be a Killjoy if you have nothing to protect yourself with! *She holds out a raygun and holster.* It's nothing much, but we'll show you how to clean it up and use it. And you can personalize it too. *She pulls out her own gun, painted purple and gold, to demonstrate.*
*Gingerly, Nix takes the gun.*
Ok guys, lets put the bowling match on hold, and eat something. Grab what you want, but remember, *She looks sternly at the twins* we all have to share.
Yes, mom!
Shut it, Solar! You and Mercury are pigs, and there's four other mouths to feed.
Yeah, yeah. We know. Chill. We're not gonna eat everything. Just most of it! *Mercury giggles and dodges Neon's smack.*
You two get to go last. C'mon, step up and don't be shy, Nix. You gotta keep your strength up. And after this I'm going to show you the basics of raygun use. Ok?
*Nix nods and grabs a plateful of food, settling on a chair and looking more at ease than she had before. I settle next to her with my own plate. After a few moments she pauses.*
I know I asked this before, but what exactly is this place?
Well, Muze was right when she said it's the funnest safehouse in the zones. My friend, Bunny - you might meet her at some point - discovered it a while back, and with the help of some other Killjoys, got it cleaned up. For a while it was the social hub of the zones, but we're never in one place too long, and by the looks of it there hasn't been many people here lately. There must be someone who looks after it though, because it's still in good shape, and well stocked. They're probably out on a mission right now though, either helping someone or getting more supplies. Who knows if we'll meet them, cuz we're not going to be here more than a few days.
Why can't we stay here?
No matter how safe a place is, if we're in one place too long BLI eventually catches up. It's part of being a Killjoy, always being on the run. But we'll be here for a little while. We need to get you trained and able to defend yourself.
*She nods, but looks sad.*
Hey, cheer up. If we stay here you'll get bored. Trust me. Before long you'll be itching to get out there and take on BLI.
*She smiles slightly, and we resume eating in silence. After everyone is done and we've tidied up, Neon takes Nix aside to begin her training. I go with them, just to observe.*
Now, I'm just going to start you with the very basics today, because it's getting late and you need all the rest you can get. Take out your gun and I'll show you how it works.
*Nix obliges and within a few minutes she's got the hang of the different settings.*
What you need to remember is: shoot to kill. When you're facing a Drac, or an Exterminator, or any BLI lackey, what you have to keep in mind is that they aren't going to show you any mercy. So do not hesitate. Ever. But regret those you have to kill. Because the minute you stop regretting the deaths is the minute you become no better than them. So, with that in mind, how about some target practice?
*When Nix agrees, Neon gets me to help set up a dummy that she'd found in a closet earlier. It's dressed in a Drac uniform, and looks as though it's seen better days.*
Ok, on my count I want you to raise your gun, take a deep breath in, get your aim centred and steady, and breath out as you squeeze the trigger. Make sure it's set on stun though, just as a precaution. Got it?
Got it.
Alright. Ready?
Ready
3...2...1...GO!
*Nix raises the gun, breaths in, holds steady for a moment, then breaths out as she squeezes the trigger. The blast grazes the dummy's shoulder, spinning it. Neon holds up her hand to halt Nix's next try, straightens the dummy, and motions for her to continue. For the next several minutes this goes on, and Nix slowly gets better. When Neon finally calls it a night, she can hit the dummy square in the chest almost every time.*
Good start! We'll continue tomorrow, so be prepared.
Thank you, Neon. I'm glad you're willing to help me.
You're a Killjoy now. You'll have to know how to defend yourself, and we're the best ones to teach you.
*With that said she shoos Nix out, telling her to get some sleep. I go with her to the back, and help her get settled in. Once she's comfortable I head back out. I need time to think through everything that's happened, and I want to talk to The Clowns.*
They and Muze are all seated at the bar when I walk in.
She's a quick learner, which is good. But I hope you know we won't be able to teach her everything before we have to leave.
I know. As long as she knows the basics she'll be fine. Hell, it's more than I knew when I ended up in the zones, and I survived.
We'll do what we can to make sure she's prepared.
Thank you for agreeing to do this.
We're doing it for you, because she's your sister and you obviously care about her.
*I nod.* I know, if it was any other circumstance you wouldn't, and I respect that. It's why I'm doubly greatful that you said you would, because you can teach her better than I ever could.
That's not neccessarily true. You've have way more experience in the zones than we have. You and Muze know better than us what to expect. Training is what we do though, and the rest comes with real life situations.
True that. We all make do with what we know, what we have. The only reason most of us survive is because we're able to outwit BLI.
*They all nod, and Muze pipes up.*
Well, that's sort of a depressing end to a mostly happy day, but there's always a bright spot. At least we're all safe and warm. I'm heading to bed though, so I'll see you all tomorrow.
I don't think we'll be far behind ya, Muze. In fact, why don't you show us where we can crash?
Well, you can crash pretty much anywhere, either on chairs out here, or beds in the back. I'll show you where the beds are, cuz they're much more comfortable.
*Neon and Solar follow Muze into the back, but Mercury stays with me. We sit in silence for a while, just enjoying each other company for the first time since we left the Island. Then she breaks the silence.*
I said we were doing this for you, because Nix is your sister. There's another reason I agreed to it though. It's because I really like you, Ghost. And I know love isn't really feasible out here, in this time, but I wanted you to know.
The feeling is mutual. Very mutual. We haven't known each other long, but I wish the circumstances were different. I wish we could have a real chance...
We can make the best of what we have though.
*I nod.* I never got a chance at love, before everything went to hell. The girl I was with ended up moving away, and even though we tried to make it work it fell apart. You remind me of her though, in all the best ways.
*Mercury smiles and stands up, holding out her hand.* Let's go to bed.
*I follow her lead, and we settle onto one of the beds in an empty room. We cuddle together, fingers linked, and fall asleep with smiles on our faces. We're woken the next morning by Solar's gleeful giggling.*

*I jump out of my sleep. I'm convinced I hear something upstairs. My gun in hand, I come out of the tiny bombshelter. Aspien is sleeping on a bunk, I sleep on the floor. I open the hidden door and wander through the dark cellar. The lights are on upstairs. I knocked everything off and the door was locked. Who could be up there I carefully pull down the stairs and creep up behind the bar. There are several people getting ready to play a game. I think they're killjoys Well dressed like that, they cant be BLI. I jump up from behind the bar* Well! A guy tries to take a day or two off hahaha I'm Skeets, manager of this fine establishment. And who might you be and How can I help?

(Yay! Another person on my thread! ) *We've all had breakfast and are just getting ready for a bowling game before Nix's training continues, when someone jumps up from behind the bar.* Jesus! Way to give us a heart attack! You're the manager?Sorry for intruding on your days off. *I laugh.* I'm Diamond Butterfly, better known as Ghost. I'm Heldere Muze, Dutch for Bright Muse.I'm Mercury BlastI'm her twin, Solar FlareAnd I'm Neon Nightmare. The three of us are The Clowns.*I look over at Nix, who is still staring at Skeets, a look of terror on her face.* Nix, relax. He's not going to hurt us. *I turn back to Skeets.* Sorry, this is Phoenix Scorpio, my little sister. She just came from Battery City, and she's still getting used to the Killjoy life so you'll have to excuse her if she's a bit jumpy.

Hahaha Had to make sure you weren't Dracs and hey, you scared me first *I go over and shake ghosts hand* So You're ghost?! Bunny has told me a lot about you... and Muze *I nod in her direction* Its a pleasure to finally meet you guys. Of course you're welcome here, any friend of Bunny's is a guest. Nice to meet you too *Salutes at the clowns* This alley is a safe house for anyone needing safety. We have several families in the surrounding area who have come back to the area after we opened and they are all housing killjoys on the way through, So no risk of drac raids, they know better than to come out here. Is your sis used to Power pup or Aspien is a great cook, she can bake cakes or something? *Nix still looks a bit shocked. I walk over to her but dont get too close in case she's uncomfortable* It is ok, you are safe here. Anything you want, you ask and I'll get it for you. Aspien, recently came out of the city. Bunny found her hiding in the desert beside her house in zone 1. I've never seen anyone so shellshocked. But she's doing a lot better here. Maybe you can talk to her when she wakes up. *I smile and walk over to the lanes* Do you want the bumpers up?

Nice to meet you too, Skeets! It's always great meeting new Killjoys.
I hope she's only told you the bad stuff! *Muze laughs*
Speaking of Bunny...I haven't heard from her in a while. Do you know what she's been up to?
*I watch Skeets approaching Nix, see Nix relaxing a little at his assurance that she's safe at the alley.*
Thanks, Skeets. I'd love to be able to talk to her. It'd be nice to share my experiences with someone who's had similar ones.
Bumpers up? Hell no! I'm the best bowler in the zones, and if these losers can't beat me with the bumpers down then they shouldn't be playing with the pro!
*She grins cheekily, and the twins leap forward.*
Hey! We almost beat you last time!
Yeah, almost being the key word! It may have been close but you two still lost to the master!
But this time we're not going to take it easy on you, are we Mercury?
Nope, we're bringing everything we've got to this game, and you're going down, Muze! Prepare to taste the bitterness of defeat!
Big talk, but can you walk the walk?
Oh, we can walk it alright. Time to find out what type of loser you are!
*And with that the game is on. We divide into two groups, and I turn to Skeets.*
You gonna join us?

Well I'm glad she's ok. Hmm...the other Killjoys were probably Funhouse Gear and Angelic Explosion. I'm glad the 'crow haven't gotten to Angel yet. I heard they were after her. Ahhh Retro! I miss her crazyness! I may have to see if I can get ahold of that lot and join up with them at some point. I miss the old gang. Alright, if you're good you can be on my team, with Mercury and Solar.

That was them. I havent heard anything since they left. Bunny has been to and from zone 1 like she was originally assigned to do. Been looking out for people coming out of the city and bringing them out here and on out to another, more secure safehouse. ha I'll be right back then *I disappear back down the stairs and into the cellar*
